Updated: Jailbreak tool for iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G on iOS 4/4.0.1 and iPad on iOS 3.2.1 released

Posted: 01 Aug 2010 03:03 PM PDT

Update: The server issues we mentioned now seem to have been corrected and you can now access the link freely.

Update 2: If you decide to run this jailbreak tool please note that Engadget has managed to brick their iPhone. So please, proceed with caution. Other users are reporting this breaking MMS and that is it not working on the iPad.

For those of you who were patiently waiting to jailbreak your iPhone running either iOS 4 or 4.0.1, your wait is finally over as iPhone hacker Comex has released a tool to get the job done. It is a web based jailbreak so simply point your mobile safari browser to www.jailbreakme.com and your wait will be over. Heck, you can even use this tool to jailbreak your iPad running 3.2.1.

The servers seemed to be overwhelmed currently but keep checking the link above and let us know how it goes for you! If you have questions and want to learn more about jailbreaking be sure to visit our forum dedicated to the topic here.

News Corp to start digital publishing unit?

Posted: 01 Aug 2010 12:19 PM PDT

News Corp. head Rupert Murdoch has repeatedly said he sees a bright future for iPad and iPad-like devices when it comes to media consumption, and now there’s a rumor he might launch a unit specifically to target the new, digital, mobile age. Could existing News Corp properties like Wall Street Journal and New York Times soon be joined by a new generation of publications?

Sources close to the company tell me that the company is considering creating a new purely digital news play that would be designed for the app world and would be available through subscription on devices like the iPad.

This new digital news venture would incorporate text, photo and video, tailored for the iTunes app format …. neither a newspaper nor a news website — it would not be based on any of News Corp’s existing papers.

Of course, publishers and Apple are reportedly still at odds over how to handle subscription pricing, and there’s still a huge disconnect between publishers and consumers when it comes to packaging and pricing (iPad versions shouldn’t cost more than print versions, right?), so the future it does come slowly…

Apple pulls rival smartphone antenna performance videos from site

Posted: 31 Jul 2010 11:44 PM PDT

We did not see this one coming but Apple has pulled the antenna performance videos featuring rival smartphones, at least here in the USA. It appears the videos are still live to our friends north of the border on the Canadian version of Apple’s site. In these videos you can see Apple display death grips on devices such as the Motorola Droid X, Blackberry Bold, HTC Droid Eris, etc…

Could this sudden removal of these videos mean that Apple wants to avoid more shots similar to how Motorola fired back just last week?

Sound off in the comments below!
