Jailbroken iPad gets Apple Magic Mouse support

iPad jailbreak gets Apple Magic Mouse support

Redmond Pie decided to try out BTstack Mouse on a Jailbroken iPad and the results were promising:

Not only did it worked with Apple Magic Mouse, but also with almost all the other Bluetooth enabled mice I had. For those of you who don't know, BTstack Mouse is a free utility which was first released earlier this year for jailbroken iPhones and iPod touch.

First a Nintendo Wiimote, then an external HDD, now BT mouse. Is there anything Jailbreak can’t do?

Check out Ally’s Spirit Jailbreak guide, and TiPb’s Jailbreak forum for more, and the link below for step-by-step BTstack for iPad instructions.

Steve Jobs on international iPad pricing: educate yourself and blame your government

Posted: 09 May 2010 06:28 AM PDT

Steve Jobs has purportedly twice again responded to customers, this over concerns about international iPad pricing and why its typically higher than in the US. To the UK customers, Jobs replied:

Please educate yourself. UK prices must by law include VAT, which is around 18%. US prices do not include tax.

MacRumors did the math and figured out:

The standard VAT rate in the UK is 17.5%, meaning that the £429 base price for the 16 GB Wi-Fi iPad in the UK is actually only £365 in “pre-tax” pricing. At current exchange rates, this corresponds to approximately $540 in the United States, or an approximately $40 premium for U.K. customers. While the price difference is not insignificant, it is considerably smaller than it might appear at first glance.

For Germany, Jobs replied:

Blame your government. Germany just added a new copyright levy for computers.

Which is something TiPb linked to yesterday — Germany has introduced 15 EUR surcharge to computers for “copyright”. Sigh.

As to why iPads and other consumer electronics cost more outside the US in general, companies typically attribute this to higher transport costs, union fees, and general business expenses.

But do Steve Jobs’ classically terse emails make those price differentials any easier to swallow?

iPhone HD/iPhone 4G casing in the wild

Posted: 09 May 2010 06:03 AM PDT

With the 4th generation iPhone HD/iPhone 4G almost certainly ramping up for production in anticipation for a WWDC 2010 introduction, it’s not too surprising parts like the casing are beginning to show up in the wild.

What SmartPhone Medic is showing in the video below matches up to the iPhone prototype Gizmodo got their hands on, once again adding weight to the assertions that this is pretty close to the final design we’ll see this June.

SmartPhone Medic also had the iPhone G4 screen back at the end of March. Impossible to keep these things secret anymore?

[SmartPhone Medic, thanks Tim for the tip!]
