Netflix 'Just for Kids' now available on iPad Posted: 01 Oct 2012 04:41 PM PDT One of the most requested features for Netflix for iPhone and iPad is the "Just for Kids" section that's available on most other platforms -- and it's finally available on the iPad. Even better, you don't have to do anything to get it. Netflix pushed a backend update and now you should see a "Just for Kids" button at the top left of the screen next to the Browse button. Unfortunately, Just for Kids is only available on the new iPad and the iPad 2, although Netflix has mentioned that the first generation iPad should receive support soon. No word yet on Netflix for iPhone. The Just for Kids section of Netflix is filled with movies and TV shows suitable for children ages 12 and under. It's great for parents because it gives the peace of mind that your child won't accidentally stumble across something inappropriate, and it's great for kids because it's easy for them to find something they like. Keep in mind, however, that there isn't a way to lock your kids into Just for Kids, so adult supervision may still be required. Apple CEO Tim Cook reportedly thanks employees for hard work, extends vacation Posted: 01 Oct 2012 10:07 AM PDT Apple's CEO, Tim Cook, has reportedly sent out a memo thanking employees for their hard work and extending their Thanksgiving vacations so they can spend an entire week relaxing and recharging with their families. 9to5Mac's ace reporter, Mark Gurman, scored a copy of the memo, which includes in part:
Those products listed above have been released at a breakneck pace, even for Apple. Staff has been hunkered down, some working around the clock, for weeks if not longer leading up announcement events and launches. From executives to engineers, it's been a Herculean effort, and one not made any easier by problems associated with iOS 6 Maps. Hopefully this lets everyone take a break, take a breath, and come back better energized and better focused. Retail staff, of course, will have to keep working, especially with Apple's only annual sale, Black Friday, immediately following Thanksgiving. Cook, however, says their extra days off will be scheduled sometime thereafter. Read the rest of the memo via the link below. Source: 9to5Mac |

Are you seeing an unexpected iCloud storage boost to 25GB... until 2050? Posted: 01 Oct 2012 06:23 AM PDT It's either our birthdays come early or a glitch that will lead to a lot of disappointment, but a ton of people over the last 24 hours are seeing their iCloud storage listed at a complementary 25GB, valid until 2050. What makes this sudden swelling especially curious is the timing -- it's happening just as the free 25GB accounts of previously paid MobileMe users were set to expire. To see if you've gotten the big bump, go to Settings > iCloud > Storage and Backup and look at Total Storage. To see the expiry date, tape on Change Storage Plan and enter your iCloud password. Now not everyone is seeing the incredible increase. Even among our own writers, a couple of them aren't. Whether or not it's just former MobileMe users, or some other pattern, and whether or not it sticks or disappears as strangely as it started is unknown. So lets Scooby Gang this -- check your settings, let us know what your iCloud storage says, and whether or not you previously paid for MobileMe. |

Posted: 01 Oct 2012 05:15 AM PDT Apple has released a small update for Verizon iPhone 5 users after it was discovered that the iPhone 5 may be using cellular data even if the device is connected to a Wi-Fi network. The update started rolling out last night and was in response to a number of complaints from Verizon iPhone 5 users who noticed that their data allowances were shrinking even when using a Wi-Fi data connection.
Once the update has installed, you need to restart your iPhone 5 for the changes to take effect. To confirm that the update completed successfully, got to Settings> Genaral> About and make sure under Carrier that Verizon13.1 is shown. If you are on Verizon, it may be worth checking that you haven't been consuming all of your cellular data allowance whist connected to Wi-Fi. If you have, it may be worth while giving Verizon a call to discuss what can be done to get back some of that data allowance. If you have been affected by the data glitch, let us know in the comments. Source: Apple |
iTunes and App Store terms and conditions stuck in infinite loop, locking out customers Posted: 30 Sep 2012 09:22 PM PDT Apple has update the terms and conditions of iTunes and the App Store tonight, and it seems to have caused a recursive bug for some users -- the TOC pops up again and again, in an infinite loop, and you just can't get past it. I haven't had the new TOC pop up for me at all yet, but based on the number of tips we're getting, a lot of you have, and lot of you have been bitten by the bug. Hopefully this is something Apple can fix on the server-side so everyone can get back to downloading If you're experiencing the infinite fail loop, let us know, and if it gets fixed or you figure away around it, let us know that too. Update: Looks like it's fixed! |
