Apple introduces new EarPods headphones coming with the iPod Nano, iPod Touch and iPhone 5 Posted: 12 Sep 2012 11:46 AM PDT Although they managed to leak out ahead of the iPhone 5 event, Apple has now introduced a new set of earbud headphones for iOS devices. EarPods, as they will be reffered to will come with all of Apple's new products such as the iPod Nano, iPod Touch and iPhone 5 as well, be available as a stand alone accessory. As we all know, there has been many complaints about the included earbud headphones for a while now and as noted during the keynote, Apple has been working on these EarPods for the past three years now. The new EarPods will be made available for purchase starting, today. |
New iPod touch will come in five different colors Posted: 12 Sep 2012 11:45 AM PDT Apple has just announced the next generation iPod touch live from the iPhone 5 event in San Francisco. Besides having a better A5 processor and camera system, it'll also come in 5 colors. The new 4" iPod touch will be available not only in black and white but blue, yellow, and red variants as well. Not as many choices as the 7 colors the new iPod nano will be available in but it's a good start and a ways away from Apple's traditional black and white approach. The red variant will be a product (RED) endorsed version as well. Any of you planning on picking up a color? If so, which one? Image Credit: The Verge |
Siri gets cozy with the iPod touch Posted: 12 Sep 2012 11:44 AM PDT The new iPod touch devices announced today at Apple's event will be able to run Siri. The voice-activated virtual assistant has been gradually creeping its way into Apple's other products, and it's good to see it landing on the iPhone's little brother. It's still unclear if older iPod touch models will be graced with Siri through a software upgrade, but presumably the last generation should be able to handle her, right? There's a lot of other cool stuff going on with the new iPod touch, particularly its new lanyard loop and camera, but you can read more about that stuff over here. Be sure to check out the rest of our iPhone 5 event coverage to see absolutely everything Apple has announced today. Any iPod touch owners excited about the addition? Source: Ars Technica |
Apple announces new widescreen iPod touches with A5 processor, better camera, and FaceTime HD Posted: 12 Sep 2012 11:34 AM PDT Apple has just unveiled new 4" widescreen iPod touches that will include the same A5 processor that powers the current generation iPhone 4S along with a new and improved camera system that'll support FaceTime HD. It'll be available in 32 and 64 GB capacities for $299 and $399 respectively. The A5 processor will increase the iPod touch's processing power to be twice as fast as its predecessor while adding dual core graphics support. The new 4" widescreen display will line up with the new iPhone 5 screen size. It also manges to shed some thickness becoming the lightest iPod touch ever. The camera system will also be improved and will include a 5 megapixel sensor and the same sapphire crystal construction the iPhone 5 will be receiving. The current generation iPod touch will remain on store shelves for $199 and $249 for the 16 and 32 GB models. |
Apple announces the new iPod Nano, widescreen with Bluetooth Posted: 12 Sep 2012 11:33 AM PDT Apple has just announced a new iPod nano which is the 7th generation of the hugely popular device. The new nano is larger than the previous model as it comes with a 2.5-inch screen and has physical controls on the side and even has a home button too. It has a similar look to an iPhone but obviously it is much smaller and thinner coming in at just 5.4mm thick. The new iPod nano will have a built in FM tuner with live pause, pedometer, wide screen video playback, Bluetooth and the longest battery life of any iPod nano. Only disappointment is the shape, its now a rectangular shape instead of square so the idea of a nano watch looks out of the question now. The new iPod nano will be available in seven different colors, gray, black, purple, green, blue, yellow, pink and a special Product Red version with a portion of the proceeds going to the Global Fund to fight AIDS in Africa. The new iPod nano is available with a 16GB storage capacity and costs $149.

iTunes and App Store get major facelifts for iPhone 5 Posted: 12 Sep 2012 11:13 AM PDT A big addition to iOS 6 for the iPhone 5 will be a visually revamped App Store and iTunes for both mobile and Mac. The changes include improved performance, previews while browsing, better search results, and sharing out to Facebook and Twitter. Facebook likes will be built into every product page, furthering the social angle. iTunes for Mac has iCloud built right in, so purchases will easily sync with your iOS devices. On mobile, TV shows, movies, apps, and books will all be accessible through the same interface. The new App Store will be launching with iOS 6 on September 16. Anyone else digging the new look? There's still more happening at today's iPhone 5 announcement...

iPhone 5 using new Lightning dock connector Posted: 12 Sep 2012 10:52 AM PDT The iPhone 5 announced today at Apple's big event will include a new dock connector called Lightning. We saw it often enough in the pre-show leaks, and is now fully official. It includes a new all-digital 8-signal design, has an adaptive interface, improved durability, reversible (i.e. usable from both ends), and is 80% smaller than the old dock connector. As for all of those accessory manufacturers bashing their head against the table now, Apple will be providing an adapter which will allow old docks to plug into the new Lightning connector. That said, there are already a lot of big names already well on their way to making Lightning-compatible accessories, including Bose, JBL, B&W, and B&O. Whether or not this new cable is any faster or useful than the old one is anybody's guess, but at least it's smaller, and at this point, Apple really needs to save as much room as possible in their devices. In any case, let's pour one out for our old dock connector. It's been a good 9 years. Still lots more iPhone 5 stuff happening, so stay tuned! Source: Engadget |
iPhone 5 camera to feature new Panorama mode Posted: 12 Sep 2012 10:49 AM PDT Along with showing off camera improvements at the iPhone 5 event, Apple has announced a new feature called Panoroma mode that will allow you to seamless take panoramic photos straight from the iPhone Camera app. Apple has just given an on-stage demonstration of Panorama mode which works by allowing you to capture images while your iPhone will stitch them together to form one panoramic shot. The shot Apple demonstrated on-stage was able to capture a 28 megapixel image. All of the editing and shooting can now be done within the Camera app without the need for outside stitching and editing apps. Panorama Mode most likely takes advantage of the new A6 processor on board and will probably only be available on the iPhone 5. As usual, we'll update when that's officially verified. Image Source: |
Apple introduces the smaller, faster A6 chipset for the iPhone 5 Posted: 12 Sep 2012 10:44 AM PDT With the iPhone 5 now going through the full unveiling process, Phil Schiller took the stage to confirm that Apple is indeed making use of the Apple A6 chipset in the new device. There was plenty of rumors surrounding the next-generation hardware and whether or not the A6 would be a part of it but now, it's for certain. As noted during the keynote, the Apple A6 is 22 percent smaller than previous generation chipsets such as the A5X and maintains twice the graphics power as well. In addition to those changes, the new Apple A6 should help with battery ife as well. Apple claims 8 hours of battery life on the iPhone while browsing over LTE with 225 hours of stand-by time being made available. Also with the addition of the Apple A6, further advancements throughout the OS are now possible. Camera images can be captured up to 40 percent faster, video stabilization has been improved and due to the power of the Apple A6, you can now snap images while recording video. Overall, some great additions that we can't wait to see in action. Especially, that battery life on LTE. Image Credit: GDGT |
Posted: 12 Sep 2012 10:40 AM PDT Apple's shown off the new camera that'll be a part of the iPhone 5 from their live event in San Francisco. While the iPhone 4S already contains an amazing camera, the iPhone 5 will add sapphire crystal construction, better handling in low light environments, and more. Along with better handling in low light will come features such as precision lens alignment. The camera will remain at the 8 MP we currently have in the iPhone 4S along with the five-element lens construction and f/2.4 aperture. All of this will be bundled with better image handling and a thinner package for an all around better quality image. FaceTime will also see an update that will add HD support which should result in a much better streaming experience, especially over the new Wi-Fi and LTE technology. We'll update with more on official specs as soon as they're available. Image Credit: The Verge |
EA shows off Real Racing 3 at iPhone 5 event Posted: 12 Sep 2012 10:40 AM PDT EA took to the stage at the Apple iPhone 5 keynote to show off its latest Real Racing game which takes advantage of the graphical capabilities of the just announced iPhone 5. The new game from EA has console quality graphics and it even lets you use your rear view mirrors in real time. That's how powerful the graphic chip is in the iPhone 5. The new game also supports a new GameCenter feature called Time shifted head to head. It basically lets you see your friends performance on the same track so you can compete against them without them needing to be there. Real tracks, real cars, real people you can play against anytime you like." Image: The Verge |
iPhone 5 battery life meets (and sometimes exceeds) iPhone 4S Posted: 12 Sep 2012 10:38 AM PDT Yet another tidbit about the iPhone 5 coming out of today's big Apple event is that the new LTE-enabled smartphone will match or even exceed the iPhone 4S battery life, despite being slimmer and running faster. Browsing and talking on cellular networks gives you 8 hours, while the iPhone 5 can handle 10 hours of Wi-Fi browsing or video, 40 hours of music, or 225 hours of standby. By comparison, the iPhone 4S is advertised as handling 8 hours of talk time, 200 hours standby, 6 hours of browsing on 3G, 9 hours on Wi-Fi, 10 hours of video, and 40 hours of music. Sounds like a solid improvement to me! There's still a lot going on in our live coverage of the iPhone 5 announcement, so stick around! Source: Ars Technica |
iPhone 5 to feature single chip LTE technology and 802.11n Wi-Fi support Posted: 12 Sep 2012 10:32 AM PDT Apple has just officially announced that the iPhone 5 will feature LTE and 802.11n Wi-Fi technology. Beyond that, it'll handle it all using a single chip set, making LTE less complicated and more compatible than ever before. Besides adding LTE support, they've also added true HSPA+ along with DC-HSDPA. Apple has stated that the iPhone 5 will be able to blaze along at up to 150 Mbps which is incredibly fast. Many carriers across North America and Europe will be supported by the new LTE and wireless chip in the iPhone 5. We'll update with official supported carrier information as soon as it's available. Familiar Apple apps ready for iPhone 5, third-party apps get black bars Posted: 12 Sep 2012 10:28 AM PDT Today at the iPhone 5 event, Apple was quick to show off that most of it's big-name applications are ready to roll on their new handset. Calendar, Keynote, Pages, Numbers, GarageBand, iMovie, iPhoto and many others are going to be fully-optimized for the new, longer display. Third-party apps that aren't updated will have to deal with black bars to fill the rest of the screen, though everything still works as before. CNN and OpenTable are some of the partners that have updated their format accordingly. Any developers dreading the new 16:9 aspect ratio? Users, are you going to have a lot of patience for apps that aren't optimized for the iPhone 5's new screen? Lots more to come! Stay tuned to our iPhone 5 event coverage! Source: gdgt |
Posted: 12 Sep 2012 10:22 AM PDT Apple has just announced the iPhone 5 and it is exactly like the leaks we have seen so far. It is currently being revealed on stage by Phil Schiller. The iPhone 5 will have a 4-inch screen with a retina display at 1136 x 640 and 326 PPI. The iPhone 5 will be 18% thinner than the iPhone 4S and will weigh 20% less too. The iPhone 5 is made from aluminium and glass and is made to fit your hand and allow one handed usage. The iPhone 5 will come with LTE as well as the usual flavors of HSPA along with N wireless at 2.4 and 5ghz. The new A6 chip will power the iPhone 5 and its claimed that it will double the performance of the iPhone 5 and double the performance of the graphics too. Press release after the jump!

App Store reaches over 700,000 apps, average consumer uses 100 apps Posted: 12 Sep 2012 10:19 AM PDT The App Store now houses over 700,000 apps total with over 250,000 of them being designed for the iPad according to Apple today at their iPhone 5 event. More than that, the average consumer actively uses 100 unique apps on their iOS devices. Even more astounding is that 90% of those 700,000 apps are downloaded every month. Those are some pretty amazing numbers for any prospective developers. Image Credit: The Verge |
Apple boasts 62% tablet market share, 17 million iPads sold between April and June Posted: 12 Sep 2012 10:19 AM PDT Today at Apple's big event in San Francisco, Tim Cook talked about how well the iPad is doing. 84 million units have been sold through June, with 17 million sold between April and June. This works out to 68% tablet market share, which is certainly down from the massive lead iPad had in the early days, but still up from 62% at the same time last year. Anyone surprised to see the iPad continue to dominate the world of tablets? There's still a lot more to come from today's iPhone 5 event! Stick around! Source: The Verge |
