Review + Give Away: Native Union Moshi Moshi Retro POP Handset for iPhone Posted: 21 Nov 2011 03:27 PM PST Here it is, the Native Union Moshi Moshi Retro POP Handset for iPhone! In case it isn’t completely obvious by the video up top or the picture below, the POP is a really cool, really retro receiver that plugs right into the iPhone’s — or any device’s — 3.5 mm headphone jack.
You can not only take and make calls with them at the press of a button, but you can activate Siri and VoiceControl as well, and even listen to music, all while tucking Ma Bell’s classic phone easily under your chin and against your ear. While black has that Matrix-chic about it, the Native Union Moshi Moshi Retro POP Handset for iPhone comes in a ton of of colors, even camo, so you can find just the perfect one for you. Sure, walking around with a giant receiver on your hip like you’re a gunslinger from the age of telephone’s past might seem a little out of the ordinary, but when has ordinary ever been fun? I absolutely love the Native Union Moshi Moshi Retro POP Handset for iPhone, and they were kind enough to send over a couple for me to try out, I want to share that love with a giveaway! If you want a POP Phone for iPhone of your very own, just leave a comment below telling me what you like about them. If you get picked, I’ll box up one of the review units and send it your way (it’s still in perfect condition). So what are you waiting for? Leave a comment already before Agent Smith swings that truck around again! |

PSA: Sharing iPhone 4S contacts also shares Siri relationships Posted: 21 Nov 2011 02:41 PM PST Just a heads up — if you send a contact via your iPhone 4S‘ built in sharing feature, you also share everything in that contact, including relationships set up by Siri. For many this may not be a big deal, but if you value your privacy or you don’t particularly want or need a business partner, for example, knowing who your mom is or that playful nickname you have for your girlfriend, you might want to think twice before sharing an entire contact card in the future. Perhaps Apple could constrain card sharing to common fields in a future iOS update. The odds of me actually wanting to share every detail in a card with someone is virtually nil, especially compared to the odds of me just wanting to share the basic details like email, phone, and address. |

Consumers want the iPad over Kindle Fire for the holidays Posted: 21 Nov 2011 11:28 AM PST In a new survey conducted by ChangeWave, consumers polled over which tablet they’ll be purchasing this holiday season showed heavy demand for the Apple iPad over competing Android tablets and the Amazon Kindle Fire.
Interestingly, it looks like the Kindle Fire may be eating away at Android tablet demand even though Android tablets have been on the market for some time now, which could be an added boon for Apple. In addition, 74 percent of iPad owners are “Very Satisfied” compared to 49 percent for all other tablet makers combined. Looking at the market overall, demand for tablets in general has seen a large increase over the past few months, jumping from 6 percent of respondents to 14 percent. With the majority of demand siding with Apple’s iPad, paired with general tablet interest more than doubling in the past 90 days, it’s easy to guess that Apple shouldn’t have too much difficulty holding a strong position in the market through 2012. Galaxy Nexus gets reviewed. Biggest iPhone rival to date? Posted: 21 Nov 2011 08:33 AM PST Alex Dobie over at Android Central has put together a complete review of the Galaxy Nexus, Google’s third superphone and the second by Samsung. While the internet often jokes about “another day, another baddest Android phone on the planet”, the Galaxy Nexus seems intent on taking that crown and holding it for more than just a few weeks this time. What does that mean for Apple and the iPhone 4S?
That’s an interesting question. The two devices are in some ways a study in contrasts. iPhone 4S retains a 3.5-inch 960×640 Retina display while the Galaxy Nexus is a huge 4.3-inches, 1280×720 PenTile monster. iPhone 4S has one of the best cameras to ever grace a mobile device while Galaxy Nexus’ shooter is decidedly un-great. iPhone 4S has Siri, the intelligent voice-control assistant, and Galaxy Nexus has Face unlock and Android Beam. iPhone nailed user experience out the gate and has been slowly adding functionality over the years while Google has jam-packd Android with features but had a harder time nailing usability and consistency. But these are both mature, stable, enjoyable devices now with large enough App Stores and Markets to fit almost anyone’s needs. Galaxy Nexus doesn’t seem quite the leap forward the Nexus One was, but certainly a far greater leap than the Nexus S delivered. Mobile Nations will put it head-to-head against the iPhone 4S soon enough, but for now check out Alex’s review and let us know what you think — tempted much? Source: Android Central |

Sprint releases Unlimited iPhone 4S commercial Posted: 21 Nov 2011 06:15 AM PST Sprint has released its first commercial for the iPhone 4S titled "Unlimited iPhone". The ad is all about the Sprint unlimited data plan that comes with an iPhone 4S on its network. With over half a million apps, there’s no limit to what the iPhone can do. So why would anyone want to limit the iPhone? We don’t. Only Sprint offers truly unlimited data for the iPhone.Sprint claims to be the only national carrier to offer the iPhone 4S with unlimited data with no throttling, metering or overages. With AT&T touting their HSPA 14.4 data speeds and Verizon the coverage of their network, Sprint is smart to play the unlimited data card. Source: YouTube |

Developer uses Siri to control home thermostat via a proxy server Posted: 21 Nov 2011 01:52 AM PST A developer has managed to get Siri to control his home thermostat. The hack does not involve any jailbreaking but does involve setting up a proxy server which intercepts the Siri commands. This proxy server can then be used to add additional command functionality to Siri. Siri Proxy is a proxy server for Apple’s Siri “assistant.” The idea is to allow for the creation of custom handlers for different actions. This can allow developers to easily add functionality to Siri. The main example I provide is a plugin to control my thermostat with Siri. It responds to commands such as, “What’s the status of the thermostat?”, or “Set the thermostat to 68 degrees”, or even “What’s the inside temperature?”The developer has put together a video showing how the proxy server can intercept Siri voice instructions and then use them at a local level. In the demo, the developer asks for information from his room thermostat and Siri responds with the internal temperature and set point. The set point is then changed using Siri and sure enough, his thermostat is updated. The demo is very impressive and does open up Siri to a whole host of possible uses. Home automation is the obvious area for it to expand into. |
