Posted: 16 Nov 2011 12:35 PM PST

Apple iOS 5

Coming as a surprise to no one — we hope — Macerkopf.de says Apple is working hard on iOS 5.0.2 and iOS 5.1 beyond that. iOS 5.0.2 should address battery life issues that remained following the iOS 5.0.1 release and it’s initial batch of battery fixes. iOS 5.1, they say, will bring some new features to Siri, including the ability to take pictures and video, and toggle Bluetooth, Wi-Fi.

Here’s to hoping for another beta release in the coming days, and a full release soon after!

Updated Gmail app lands back in the App Store

Posted: 16 Nov 2011 11:00 AM PST

iOS Gmail App

The once pulled, now updated, GMail application is again available for downloading through the App Store. The previous build was approved and quickly pulled after some issues with Push Notification, and we have been waiting for the application to surface again. For those who still have it installed, the updated advises that you delete the previous version, and then install this version instead of just updating this one over the previous build. With no errors on launch, and notifications pushing, could this update be what we had hoped to see originally? Hit the link below to grab it for yourself, and let us know how it works out for you.

  1. First you’ll need to jump into Settings and Music from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch.

Steve Jobs tribute painting made in real time [video]

Posted: 16 Nov 2011 05:58 AM PST

Artist Aaron Kizer has made a painting as a tribute to Steve Jobs. What is so special about that? Well he did it live at the 11th Hour Live Music and Arts Show in Kentucky and it was all captured on video in real time.

It starts off as a few white brush strokes on a black wall but soon starts to take shape. In just over six minutes, the painting is finished and it is all done to music too. I am sure you will agree, the end result is stunning.

Netflix revamping its iPad app, new look and more content coming soon

Posted: 15 Nov 2011 11:58 PM PST

Netflix is currently revamping its Netflix iPad app to bring it into line with its just updated apps on other platforms. The new update will include a complete redesign of the user interface.

The new design is much more immersive and provides greater focus on the growing number of titles in the Netflix catalog. In fact, the new interface displays twice as many movies and TV shows as before, enabling you to discover even more titles you’ll love. Also, we’ve taken greater advantage of the tablet’s unique features, inviting you to swipe through rows of titles featuring larger artwork.
Netflix claims that the iPad app should be available on the coming weeks; it certainly looks like an exciting update. We will let you know as soon as it’s available.

iOS Bugs: All apps stuck on “Waiting” to install

iOS Bugs: All apps stuck on "Waiting" to install

After updating to iOS 5.0.1 via iTunes and rebooting, I found all the App Store apps installed on my iPhone were suddenly waiting to download and install. That’s right. All of them. Just “Waiting”. Unable to launch.

I tried force-quitting the App Store app. I tried rebooting. I tried resetting. I logged into and out of the App Store app. I checked if there were any iTunes Store downloads, like podcasts, that might have gotten “stuck” (there weren’t). I checked if any large apps like Navigon were slowly — very slowly — downloading (they didn’t appear to be.) I tried re-syncing with iTunes on my desktop (the apps came back, still waiting).

I could still download new apps and those worked fine. They actually downloaded quickly, installed completely, and launched properly.

With 5 pages of apps, it’s going to be a pain to delete them all and re-download them all one by one, but it’s about the only option I have left right now.

Problem

  • All App Store apps show as “waiting” to download and install and can’t be launched

Possible solutions

  • Stop any iTunes Store downloads that might have gotten stuck
  • Delete any big apps that might be clogging the install problem
  • Manually delete and re-install all App Store apps.

Note: Like I said, the first two didn’t work for me but they were offered as potential fixes on Apple’s discussion forums, so if you have the same or a similar problem, give them a try before you escalate to the last one.

If anyone else has figured out a better solution, let me know in comments!
