How to set up iTunes Wi-Fi sync for Windows

Posted: 24 Oct 2011 01:28 PM PDT

How to set up iTunes Wi-Fi sync using Windows

Tired of tethering to iTunes and wondering how to get Wi-Fi sync set up on Windows? Luckily with iTunes 10.5 and iOS 5 it’s easy to get the Zune guys to stop teasing you. Here’s how:

  • Make sure your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch is connected to your Wi-Fi network and running iOS 5. (Here’s how to update to iOS 5)

  • Make sure the PC running iTunes is connected to the same Wi-Fi network and is running iTunes version 10.5
  • Plug in the device you want to setup Wi-Fi sync with
  • When its been recognized, click on it in the left column then select Summary in the header bar
  • Scroll down until you see the option for Sync with this iPhone over Wi-Fi
  • Click the box to turn it on
  • Hit Apply
That’s it, now as long as iTunes is open on your PC, as soon as you plug your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad into the power outlet, it should appear in iTunes and sync over Wi-Fi.

(Yes — It has to be plugged in to the power for this to work, so you are really just cutting the cord to the PC not to the wall!)

If you want to initiate a sync manually, you can do this from your iOS device and you don’t need to be plugged into a power outlet.

  • Go to Settings
  • General
  • Click on iTunes Wi-Fi Sync
  • Click on Sync Now

That is all there is too it, you can now sync your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad without the cable. Well without a cable connected to your PC anyway!

Apple updates iPad 2 Smart Covers, kills off orange, adds dark gray

Posted: 24 Oct 2011 08:15 AM PDT

Apple has updated its iPad 2 line of Smart Covers, killing off the orange polyurethane version and replacing it with a much more tasteful dark gray version. It has also improved the other colors in the polyurethane range, which it claims are now more vibrant — they all now come with a color matched microfiber lining too. The leather versions haven’t been changed except with the addition of the color matched microfiber lining.

The Smart Covers are available in the Apple Store and are still priced at $39 for the Polyurethane model and $69 for the Leather version.

Rope Rescue HD by Chillingo

Posted: 24 Oct 2011 07:37 AM PDT

Rope Rescue HD is a new puzzle game by Chillingo. The goal is to drag your rope through gears and to the bird cage to release the birds from captivity. The ideal route may be blocked by enemies and fire, however.

I love puzzles, and Rope Rescue is no exception. The levels are short, making it a great time-killer game to squeeze in betweens meetings or classes, but it’s also addicting and can keep you entertained for longer lengths of time.

Rescue caged birds in this award-winning puzzle game! Drag a length of rope through a series of gears, and then finally attach it to the cage to release your friends. Pesky enemies, fire, and other rope-wrecking obstacles threaten feathered freedom. Collect butterflies on the way for special bonuses, and try use as little rope as possible for maximum points.

  • Over 60 puzzling levels will keep you wrapped up for hours.
  • Addictive gameplay with multiple solutions for each level will have you playing for hours.
  • Avoid flying knives, fire cannons and of course the evil bats.
  • Collect or purchase butterflies to unlock later levels or provide hints to help you on your adventure.
  • Visit the bird sanctuary to see the cute baby birds you have rescued.
  • Challenge your friends to beat your best scores using fully integrated Crystal leaderboards.

Rope Rescue HD is available on the iPhone and iPad for $0.99.

Poll: How’s iCloud working for you?

Posted: 24 Oct 2011 06:48 AM PDT

iCloud has been out of beta and live on iOS 5 for over a week now so it’s time ask — how’s iCloud working for you? Now that you don’t sync MobileMe style anymore but — I’ll say it! — seamlessly store and push your content between all your devices, iOS, OS X and Windows, is you stuff where you want, when you want?

In an ideal world you iCloud mail will show up everywhere, all at once, with perfect push notifications, your calendars would just work, even when shared, and your contacts would all be related so you could tell your special someone you’re running late… again. Your Documents in the Cloud would all be up to date, available at the touch of any app that can edit them, and your iTunes in the Cloud would let you re-download any song or TV show as easily as you always could apps. Your backups and restores would work flawlessly, and your Photo Stream would actually let you delete unwanted pictures. If you had to use Find my iPhone, it would send a locator immediately and you’d never have to wait a day to discover you left it in your other pants pocket. And we’d all have iTunes Match.

In the often more brutal real world, however, you mail might not be pushing, your documents might be disappearing, your songs not all showing up, your Photo Stream causing you grief, and Find my iPhone doing anything but. (Grrrr.)

So you tell us TiPb Nation, what are your experiences with iCloud so far? Is it a game changer or just MobileMe part deux? Vote up top and give me the glorious — or gory! — details in the comments below!
