Edit your photos with King Camera for iPhone Posted: 29 Sep 2011 06:31 PM PDT The photography app King Camera for iPhone received a huge update today. It is jam packed with editing tools that cater to both beginning and advanced users. I played around with King Camera for a big today, and, boy, does it have a lot of features. What I really like about it, however, is that the developers were able to include all these editing tools without making the app feel cluttered. Not to mention, the UI is just beautiful – and I’m a sucker for gorgeous UI’s.
King Camera for the iPhone is on sale for $0.99. Have an app you’d love to see featured on TiPb? Email us at iosapps@tipb.com, tell us about your app (include an iTunes link), and we’ll take a look. |
Quora releases official iPhone app Posted: 29 Sep 2011 05:56 PM PDT Quora, the popular Q&A social network, has just released their official iPhone app in the App Store. Quora for iPhone adds a new iOS-only feature called “Nearby” that lets you browse questions based on location using Google Maps. One of the great features is Push Notifications, because you don’t have to constantly check to see who’s been answering your questions on the service. In addition, Quora for iPhone has a neat shuffle option that helps you discover new content you may not have found otherwise.
Quora is available for the iPhone for free.

TiPb Asks: What are you expecting from the Let’s Talk iPhone event? Posted: 29 Sep 2011 01:15 PM PDT The Let’s Talk iPhone event is less than a week away and can I say it’s been the weirdest, most bizarre build up to an Apple event ever? First we got no new iOS beta event in spring, then no new iPhone at WWDC in June, then Steve Jobs resigned as CEO, and through it all we’ve seen everything from a rumored iPhone 4GS with no redesign whatsoever to a rumored iPhone 5 with a bigger screen and metal back.
Likewise with iPod touch. Will white be the only refresh we get, or will iPod touch also get an Apple A5 processor for AirPlay Mirroring, Assistant, and even better gaming? (Remember when iPod touch used to be slightly more powerful than iPhone?) There are even rumors that Apple might be getting ready to severely downsize the existing iPod lineup as well (hey, they downsized the annual September iPod event to nothing already, didn’t they?) So worst case we get a very incremental iPhone hardware and negligible iPod touch hardware update, with some admittedly very sweet new software features, and best case we get a super sweet new iPhone and powerhouse iPod touch, and maybe even a 1080p Apple TV thrown in for good measure. If you watched iPhone Live last night — and shame on you if you didn’t! — you know Rene’s expecting the worst, an iPhone 4GS and no Steve Jobs cameo. For the record, it’s been 15 long months and I bloody well expect Apple to wow me not only with new features like iOS 5′s Assistant, but with some new hardware to boot. As for Seth… he got assassinated by Verizon before I could force him to pick a side so we shall see. As for you TiPb Nation, what do you expect? What will Apple show us at Let’s Talk iPhone? iPhone 5 will support HSPA+ 4G technology Posted: 29 Sep 2011 10:07 AM PDT During a presentation at Macworld Asia, China Unicom revealed that, as long and widely rumored, iPhone 5 will support HSPA+ networks.
While HSPA+ is really a 3.5G technology, T-Mobile, AT&T, and now many other carriers have been marketing it as 4G for a while now in order to compete with real 4G networks like Verizon LTE. (Turns out it’s easier to print 4G on a box than build out an actual LTE network, go figure?) It will be interesting to see how an HSPA+ iPhone will be marketed by AT&T. Will Apple let them call it a 4G iPhone? |

Fake iPhone ring found to be using actual iPhone components Posted: 29 Sep 2011 02:35 AM PDT Police in Shanghai, China have discovered a group of five people assembling and selling fake versions of the iPhone. Those arrested are thought to be part of an organised gang that were buying in parts from Guangdong in southern China and assembling them in rented apartments in Shanghai. Some of the parts being used are even thought to be genuine components used in the assembly of the actual iPhone 4. About 200 fake iPhones were found during the raid on the apartments. The cost to make one fake iPhone, which used some genuine parts, was around 2,000 yuan ($313). It was sold on unauthorised markets and on the Internet for around 4,000 yuan, only a few hundred yuan cheaper than the real iPhone, the newspaper said. The fake iPhones had the same functions as the genuine ones but had a shorter battery life, it quoted the police as saying. This story is not exactly a great surprise, it wasn’t that long ago that actual fake Apple stores were appearing in parts of China. They were found to be selling actual Apple products but were certainly not authorized in any way. China has often been criticized for its lack of control over pirated goods; which can easily be found in shops. Source: Reuters, China Daily |
