Prototype iPhone on T-Mobile US? Posted: 23 Apr 2011 03:40 PM PDT Jonathan Geller of BGR scored a look at an internal Apple iPhone prototype, N94, running on T-Mobile’s AWS 3G bands.
The AT&T/GSM iPhone 4 was N90, the Verizon iPhone 4 was N92. With AT&T attempting to buyout T-Mobile and transition the T-Mobile spectrum to LTE, who know what this was, is, or will be. Several Canadian carriers, like Wind, Dave, and Videotron use the same AWS spectrum as T-Mobile but are a relatively tiny target market. Either way, it’s interesting to see more prototypes leaking, and to catch a glimpse at what Apple’s working on inside the vaults of Cupertino. Anyone holding out hope for that T-Mobile iPhone anyway? White iPhone 4 landing this Wednesday, April 27? Posted: 23 Apr 2011 02:12 PM PDT It’s looking more and more like this Wednesday, April 27 is the day the [white iPhone 4](http://www.tipb.com/tag/white-iphone-4/] finally arrives, at least in UK and the US. We’ve already seen Vodafone jump the gun on selling, and now 9to5Mac has some shots of Best Buy US in stock dates. If that’s the case, hopefully Apple will confirm with a press release on Monday. (That they’ve waited this long is the only thing that gives me pause — manufacturing and distribution could still be a challenge.) If it is Wednesday, are you relieved you can finally get one, or that you’ll finally stop hearing about it? [9to5Mac] White iPhone 4 landing this Wednesday, April 27? is a story by TiPb. Posted: 23 Apr 2011 11:20 AM PDT Every week a few of us from team TiPb will bring you our current favorite, most fun and useful App Store apps, WebApps, jailbreak apps, even the occasional accessory, web site, or desktop app if the mood strikes us. As long as they're iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch related, they're fair game. To see what we picked, and to tell us your pick, follow on after the break!
Prowl – @iMuggleProwl is a growl client available via the App Store that allows you to get growl notifications from your Mac on your iPhone. In order for it to work, you’ll need to purchase the Prowl app from the App Store and also download the Mac version of Prowl. You can then configure Prowl settings from your computer. You can choose which Growl notifications you’d like to push to your iPhone. For example, I want Campfire notifications but I don’t want a notification about a Twitter alert, so I disable Prowl from pushing those. The set up can be a bit tricky but once configured properly, you’ll never miss an important notification again. This is great for apps that don’t have push as well. The Campfire app for iPhone does not have push, so I just leave my MacBook Pro running at home and after I’m idle for 5 minutes, it starts pushing Propane (Campfire app for Mac) notifications to my iPhone via Prowl. I don’t ever have to disable or re-enable them. [$2.99 - iTunes Link] Put Things Off – @skeetobiteI admit it, I am lazy, and a procrastinator. I have tried to fight it, but it is who I am. So when I saw a task manager called “Put Things Off: The Laid-back ToDo List to Get Tasks Done”, I had to give it a try. Rather than build complex to do lists, with priorities, deadlines, etc, with Put Things Off (or PTO) you have one in-box listing all your to do list items. If you look at your list, you can either mark off something as done (and it moves to the done bin) or you can tap the “put off” arrow, and it will automatically move the task from the in-box to the “put off” box. You aren’t going to be reminded constantly about what you need to do, or should have done – instead, you can focus on the tasks you have decided to do today. Focused productivity. Now, you can add a due date (there is a box for “todays” todo items), but the key feature is the simplicity of the in-box – do it, or put it off. You select what your procrastination line is in the settings – do you put things off for a day, or longer? There are even cute sound effects that make the app more entertaining. If you are looking for a full-featured task manager, this is not your app. But if you recognize that productivity is simply a decision of what to do and when, this app might entertain, and who knows, maybe even let you control your procrastination [$2.99 - iTunes link] Tesco Finder– @chrisoldroydThis little app from Tesco seems rather simple form the outside. Yes it is a store finder which enables you to find your nearest store but it goes one step further. Once you have located your nearest store, and you’re actually in there, this app will let you search for products in that store. Once the search is complete it will come back and tell you which isle and approx location on the shelf the product is. It is pure gold when you can't find the coffee or the strange items that your significant other has sent you for! [Free - iTunes Link] I-Nigma – @Alli_FlowersI have been bitten by the bar code bug. I get emails from people using QR codes in their signatures. I now send email with QR codes in my signature. My business cards use them. When I go shopping, I scan the bar codes on products to get more information – whether I’m interested in the product or not. I have a folder on my home screen called “scanners.” I have 5 apps that read various types of bar codes. The one I like best is I-Nigma. It reads all kinds of codes quickly and accurately. The funky square QR codes, traditional bar codes, I-Nigma handles them all. Depending on the data stored in the code, the information is either presented on screen for you to use or save, or it takes you out to the web. If you have not been bitten by the bar code bug, download I-Nigma and take a stroll to your local Best Buy and scan some stuff just for fun. It’s addicting! [Free - iTunes link] Crackle – @reneritchieIt has Samurai X. Which if you don’t know is Roruni Kenshin. Which if you don’t know has the Kyoto arc. Which if you don’t know you shouldn’t be reading this you should be out watching the Kyoto arc of Samurai X on Crackle, aho! It’s also got Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot, It’s got Voltron minisodes (?!). It’s got T.J. Frakken Hooker (and a bunch of other shows from the wacky old days). It’s also got a ton of other movies and TV shows, which I’m guessing probably vary from country to country. IIt’s not perfect. It takes its time to start videos, and to switch to full screen. There’s no AirPlay integration. And video quality isn’t always that great. And Kenshin is only offered dubbed as Samurai X and not as subtitled as nature and all true anime fans intend. Hopefully that and more will be addressed in an update. Now please excuse me, I’m in the middle of episode 53, The Giant Versus Superman: Like an Arrow Shot at a Time of Despair. So good. [Free - iTunes link] Death Rally – @JorjLimDeath Rally is a similar racing game to Reckless Racing Chad's Review for iPhone and iPad. The basic goal in the game is to win races, which can be achieved in 2 ways: coming first in a race, or destroying everyone else racing, with a weapon attached to your car. Your car starts with a basic machine gun, which, as you play you can unlock and upgrade to, mines, snipers, missiles and more. Each normal race is against 5 other racers, around a 3-lap track, however there are several different race modes, including 'one round', 'missiles-only', 'head to head' (one on one), adding a great variance to the game With its added Game Centre support, Death Rally gives you lots of achievements to unlock and leaderboards to compare 'FAME' with friends. Unfortunately, there is no multiplayer support yet, but the developers have said this will be coming in a future update, so why not pick the game up now and get some practice in. [$2.99 - iTunes link] QuickPix – @andrewwrayQuickPix (formally known as QuickCam) is an ultra-fast camera app for your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. With QuickPix, you can take up to 2 pictures per second (pps) in RapidFire Mode on the iPhone 4 or as many as 14 pps on the new iPad 2 thanks to its dual-core A5 chip. The app is primarily focused on making it easier to take pictures from your iPhone at a moments notice and comes with useful features like the ability to snap a photo while taking video at the same time. The app feels extremely lightweight and launches very quickly — a pleasant surprise given how long it can sometimes take to launch the camera app — and also comes with a handy option to snap a photo upon launch to help makes sure you capture that perfect shot. Of course, you’ll be sure to find all the standard camera features packed in their too, including pinch to zoom (no limit on zooming!), focus/exposure/white balance manipulation via tap commands and more. QuickPix is currently on sale for just a buck right now, so there’s really no going wrong with this app. Give it a try! Daily Tip: How to turn off Locations Services for iPhone, iPad Posted: 22 Apr 2011 07:54 PM PDT Paranoid about your location being known and curious how to turn off any iPhone tracking that might be going on? Location Services can be a really nice feature to have when you want to geotag a photo, checkin to a game, use turn-by-turn navigation, or find a nearby restaurant. Privacy, however, is a really important issue and sometimes it is better to switch this service off just in case. This can be done very easily, you can turn off all Location Services completely or choose which applications can access them. It is very simple to do and we show you how, after the break!
Here's how to change Location Services options. Turn off all Location Services
Turn Off Location Services on a per app basis
Some of the apps will have the Location Services symbol displayed next to them; it looks like an arrow head pointing North East. This tells you which apps have requested location information in the last 24 hours. It really is that simple! If you have any other good Location Services tips, let us know in the comments! Tips of the day will range from beginner-level 101 to advanced-level ninjary. If you already know this tip, keep the link handy as a quick way to help a friend. If you have a tip of your own you'd like to suggest, add them to the comments or send them in to dailytips@tipb.com. This is their next iPhone 5 rumor Posted: 22 Apr 2011 05:20 PM PDT Huge iPhone 5 rumor from Joshua Topolsky today, as he’s heard that Apple’s upcoming iPhone 5 may indeed be the total redesign he first mentioned back in his Engadget days, with iPod touch-style thinness, a teardrop, MacBook Air-style chassis, a potentially edge-to screen with no bezel, and Palm Pre-style inductive charging and gesture area.
Now as listeners of iPhone Live and TiPb TV know, I’ve been wishing for the total redesign for months. I want to believe. I’ve also wondered if Apple would explore putting components, including perhaps even the antenna, behind the screen. There have been rumors in the past that Apple prepares multiple prototypes, some more ambitions and some more safe. This might explain the stories of a mere spec bump a la iPhone 3GS (iPhone 4S in this case) and stories like this one. So it’s important to keep in mind that even if all this is exactly what Apple is working on, it may not be what they can get ready to ship by fall. Personally, I would really love this to be the next iPhone. How about you? This is their next iPhone 5 rumor is a story by TiPb. This feed is sponsored by The iPhone Blog Store. |
