Vodafone UK accidentally sells White iPhone 4, says it will officially drop “next week” Posted: 22 Apr 2011 02:43 PM PDT Adding to recent rumors of the White iPhone 4 possibly shipping on April 26 come more from Engadget, this time in the form of images from a Vodafone UK customer who was lucky enough to get their hands on one a little early. After Vodafone realized one had gotten loose, they sent out a notice to halt all sales of the White iPhone 4 until next week.
Apparently a Vodafone sales rep rang up the White iPhone 4 as a Black 16gb model in their point-of-sale system before the company told its employees not to sell units carrying the MC604B/A model number. The current UK 16gb Black iPhone 4 has a model number of MC603B/A, with the ‘4′ presumably representing the difference in color for that capacity. Apple has repeatedly gone on the record saying the White iPhone 4 would come out “this spring”, but that window is quickly closing. With these new images could we actually be on the verge of seeing real [Engadget]

TiPb Asks: Do you update your apps? Posted: 22 Apr 2011 07:04 AM PDT Do you update your iPhone, iPod touch and iPad apps? It might sound like a strange questions given Apple’s easy “Update All” button, but not everybody does. At least, I don’t. I never update an app unless it’s added a new feature or game level I want, or fixes a bug that I care about. I’m not a slacker — okay, I’m not just a slacker — I’ve had apps that worked perfectly in the past be totally ruined by a bad update, be it a horrible new feature or a really buggy release. (Insert your Twitter and Facebook jokes here.) So now I leave well enough alone and don’t update until I have to. Am I the in the minority here? Do all of you update religiously or are some of you more hesitant (or lazy!) like me? At the moment I have 51 app updates pending for my iPhone 4, how many do you have? iPhone 6 to support LTE in 2012 via Qualcomm MDM9615? Posted: 22 Apr 2011 06:49 AM PDT Mickey Papillon nailed the Verizon iPhone and the chipset it would be using a year before it was announced, so when he says LTE just might be coming to iPhone 6 in 2012 via the Qualcomm MDM9615, we’re going to pay attention.
(If you’re not familiar with all those telecommunications terms, check out our networking glossary.) So February 2011 introduced the stand-alone Verizon iPhone, fall 2011 will bring the dual-mode iPhone 5, and 2012 will crank this up with an LTE iPhone 6? Sounds good to me. What do you think? iPhone 6 to support LTE in 2012 via Qualcomm MDM9615? is a story by TiPb. This feed is sponsored by The iPhone Blog Store. |
Jailbreak app store, Cydia still suffering post-Amazon EC2 outage Posted: 22 Apr 2011 06:23 AM PDT Amazon EC2, their cloud hosting solution, has been struggling with outages over the last day or so, taking down a lot of popular web services including the Cydia Store for Jailbreak users, FourSquare, among others. While Amazon’s EC2 status board shows things are back to normal, a bunch of Jailbreak readers (and some of our own #TeamJailbreak writers) still can’t access Cydia. Hopefully whatever issues remain will be solved quickly. In the meantime if you were considering Jailbreaking, we’d recommend holding off until Cydia is fully functional again or you may not be able to get access to any Jailbreak apps or other Cydia resources. iTunes music streaming service already approved by two major music labels? Posted: 22 Apr 2011 06:11 AM PDT Hot on the heels of yesterday's news that Apple was ready to launch its iTunes music streaming service, All Things Digital is now reporting that Apple already has deals in place with two of the major music labels. The deals are said to be in place with two of four largest labels, Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, Sony and EMI. They do not know which of the two the deals are with at this stage. One of its sources also claim that Apple content boss Eddy Cue will be in New York tomorrow to start finalising deals with the remaining two labels. The industry executives I've talked to haven't seen Apple's service themselves, but say they're aware of the broad strokes. The idea is that Apple will let users store songs they've purchased from its iTunes store, as well as others songs stored on their hard drives, and listen to them on multiple devices.Amazon launched its own music streaming and storage service last month without the approval of the major music labels. The way Apple is approaching the idea is totally different. A licence agreement with the music labels would allow Apple to store a single copy of a song on its server's, then share that to multiple users who own the music. This would massively reduce the storage levels needed by Apple and obviously reduce costs too. The success of this service will be down to how much it costs the consumer, both in terms of any subscription pricing and more obviously data costs. Cell service providers seem intent on reducing our monthly download limits. For these type of services to succeed we need to see the return of unlimited data plans! iTunes music streaming service already approved by two major music labels? is a story by TiPb. Samsung countersues Apple for patent infringement Posted: 21 Apr 2011 08:25 PM PDT Samsung has countersued Apple for the infringement of 5 patents, this in response to Apple’s suit against Samsung for patent and trademark violations filed earlier this week.
Apple’s lawsuit seemed focused on preventing Samsung from copying the look and feel of iPhone and iPad in the Galaxy S line of tablets and TouchWiz skins. Samsung’s seems focused on trying to match the patent portion. It will be interesting to see how they respond to the trademarks. Anyone else thinking that if they continued to innovate, they wouldn’t be facing the trademark charges? [Reuters] Samsung countersues Apple for patent infringement is a story by TiPb. Daily Tip: How to link Facebook, LinkedIn contacts Posted: 21 Apr 2011 07:48 PM PDT After sharing a tip on how to link Exchange and Mobile Me contacts, we were asked to cover how to link Facebook and LinkedIn contacts to your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch as well. Done. Follow on after the break to see exactly what you can and can’t link, and some cautions on what you might and might not want to link.
To link your Facebook and/or LinkedIn contacts to your iOS contacts you need to use the free Facebook and LinkedIn apps from the App Store. Chances are you already have them, but if not grab them first:
Depending on how many connections you have in LinkedIn, it could take a while to download. Once it’s done, your LinkedIn contacts should be new or updated in your Contacts app. You can tell by the LinkedIn icon stamped on the bottom left corner of any new or updated contact.
Again, depending on the size of your contacts, it may take a while to sync. Once it’s done, your Facebook contacts should be available as new or updated entries in your Contacts app. Note: If a you’re the friend of a colleague at work and they have a party picture up as their Facetime profile pic, hilarity might ensue the next time you get a business email from them… Tips of the day will range from beginner-level 101 to advanced-level ninjary. If you already know this tip, keep the link handy as a quick way to help a friend. If you have a tip of your own you'd like to suggest, add them to the comments or send them in to dailytips@tipb.com.
