Reminder: Win a Tablet of your choice from TouchType

Win a Tablet of your Choice

Just a reminder, folks that to celebrate 1 million downloads of their SwiftKey keyboard app, TouchType is giving away a tablet each to THREE lucky winners! Which tablets? Whichever the winner chooses so long as they’re available for purchase for up to $800 where he or she lives. iPad 2, PlayBook, Xoom, Galaxy Tab are all on the table.

How do you enter? TouchType has put together a small survey which shouldn’t take more than five or ten minutes to complete. That’s it – well, that and a quick perusal of the official entry rules just to make sure you’re eligible (sorry minors and SPE employees). The contest is open to readers of Android Central, CrackBerry.com, TiPb, and WPCentral and ends at midnight Pacific on April 14.

Not familiar with TouchType? You may have also seen that TouchType made a splash at this year’s CTIA with their tablet keyboard for Honeycomb - that’s coming soon, but SwiftKey is available now for Android devices.

So get cracking on the survey, folks – these tablets aren’t going to give themselves away.

TiPb Asks: What’s your iPhone ringtone?

TiPb Asks: What's your iPhone ringtone?

Marimba, the default iPhone ringtone, is so 2007 — so we’re curious what you’re using today? Have you stuck with the built-in tones or have you gone with something custom? Do you just use one ring tone for everybody or have you personalized your favorite contacts?

If so, do you like songs with lyrics or do you prefer instrumentals? Do you keep things musical or do you sometimes go with soundboard clips for that comedic effect? Video game themes, movie themes, rock, hip hop, special effect sounds, celebrity tag lines, sports jingles?

Let us know what you’re using and for those of us looking for some cool new ringtones, what would you recommend?

iPad 2 jailbreak imminent?

Posted: 08 Apr 2011 07:25 PM PDT

iPad 2 jailbreak may be coming sooner than a lot of folks thought thanks to p0sixninja. In a recent tweet, he claims they are working on a jailbreak for the new iPad 2. As we all remember, with the release of the 4.3.1 jailbreak, the iPad 2 was left out of the fun, due to the difference in the bootrom.

p0sixninja appears to be confirming that the jailbreak does exist –

Since 4.3.1 is already exploited by the legendary @i0n1c, we’re working on finishing iPad2 jailbreak now.

How many of you out there have been eagerly awaiting a jailbreak for your iPad 2?

Daily Tip: How to right-justify text on iPhone, iPad

Daily Tip: How to right-justify text on iPhone, iPad

Trying to figure out how to right-justify text on iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad? Built-in apps don’t have alignment options but there is a work around if you really want some text stuck to the right margin. We’ll show you how, after the break.

[via Martin Trautschold and Gary Mazo, Made Simple Learning]

If you really, truly want to have some text right-justified on iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad, you need to first enable an international keyboard for a language that’s written right to left.

  1. Launch Settings
  2. Tap General
  3. Tap Keyboard
  4. Tap International Keyboards
  5. Tap Add New Keyboard
  6. Select Hebrew (or any language that’s written right to left)

Now you’re ready to right-justify in an iOS app like Notes, Mail, etc!

  1. Launch Notes (or any app where you can type text)
  2. Type a word
  3. Double tap the word to select it (like you would for copy and paste)
  4. Arrows will appear at the far right side of the popup menu
  5. Tap the arrows to toggle between left and right justify

That’s it! You can now stick text to the left or right margin on a line-by-line basis!
