Every week a few of us from team TiPb will bring you our current favorite, most fun and useful App Store apps, WebApps, jailbreak apps, even the occasional accessory, web site, or desktop app if the mood strikes us. As long as they're iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch related, they're fair game.

LOVEFiLM – @chrisoldroyd

LOVEFiLM is the UK version of NetFlix. Well nearly anyway. This application is reasonably simple; it allows you to view rentable movies and console games and then add them to your queue. It doesn't offer any streaming capabilities as of yet although you can view trailers. It is a very handy app to have when your friends tell you about a must see film. You can fire up the app and add it your queue before you forget what it was called. It is a free application and it is available for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad too. The app needs to be linked to your current LOVEFilM subscription to be of any use.

Comic Zeal – @reneritchie

This one was recommended by our ace TiPb Forum app reviewer, Chris Vitek (see his probably better than mine pick, above!) and I dedicate it to that angry ball of comic-loving hate, Keith Newman — Comic Zeal for iPad. My first comic was giant-sized replica of Action Comics #1 and the first comic I bought myself was the beginning of the Dark Phoenix Saga, so I’ve been enjoying me some superheroics for a long time. Over the years I’ve stopped buying periodicals and started buying trades, then Absolutes and Omnibuses. I’d bought Marvel’s awesome DVD dumps off Amazon years ago but never really enjoyed reading them on a PC.

A post-PC, however? Well, true believers, that’s a match made in heaven. Whether you’ve also bough a ton-o-PDFs or acquired CBR and CBZ files from series of tubes, Comic Zeal is a great way to enjoy them. You can sync over from iTunes via file sharing if you absolutely have to but I just drop mine in Dropbox, hit the Dropbox app on iPad, download them, hit the action button, and tap open in Comic Zeal. (It’s a universal app and while I find iPhone and iPod touch far to small to contain my comics, your mobile mileage may certainly vary.)

And then I’m in omega beaming, optic blasting, bataranging, bleed-traversing, shield and web slinging, hoary frakking hosts of hogarth incanting, bullet bouncing, speed force speeding, gamma irradiating, is-her-power-keeping-that-suit-on-ing, retconning, 4th wall busting, up up and awaying bliss.

Qik Video Camera Pro – @Alli_Flowers

If you ever find yourself thinking “this is taking too long to upload to Facebook,” or “I wish I’d posted that video to Twitter, too,” or “it’s a shame Mom/Grandma/friend can’t see what I’m seeing right now,” you need Qik.

I used Qik on my old Windows Mobile phone and thought it was great. You can stream video from your phone right to the Qik website. You can even get viewer comments. Once, when visiting my nephews, I had my parents watch as I streamed video from dinner so that they could join us, even if only virtually. No, it’s not the same as FaceTime – it’s just a one way stream. But it’s more for showing what you’re seeing, than interacting. It will also post automatically to your Facebook, Twitter, or Youtube account – something I find very handy, not to mention time-saving.

The latest version even includes a variety of filters, including the one in the accompanying screenshot, with a close-up popout. Filters also include, but are not limited to sepia, black and white, frost, and photo mix. The quality is good, although when viewed in full screen on your computer, it’s pixely. It’s still a great option for video sharing.

Due – @andrewwray

Due is a super simple, super powerful reminder app for the iPhone. I’ve been using Due to replace NotifyMe 2 for all my general reminders and appointments I want to be notified of. The app delivers graceful and efficient functionality without being over-cluttered with an unfriendly UI or confusing actions, and pulls from Apple’s built-in interface elements to maintain a seamless flow when using the app for the first time. When you receive a reminder notification you’re taken into the app and presented with a number of options to modify the reminder or reschedule it quickly and easily without the notification actually becoming a distraction. Check out the video they did here to get a better idea of how simple it really is!

You can also setup personal timers each with their own title, which has really come in handy for me at work. I previously used the default Clock app to keep a single timer for multiple tasks, which is obviously limited by nature. A great example for multiple timers is when cooking, where Due will send a local notification when each timer is up, and you can have as many timers running as you’d like. Don’t let the high price fool you, this app is a must-have for productivity junkies — go grab it now!

Bullfighting Hero – @skeetobite

My pick of the week is the iPhone game Bullfighting Hero. The object of this game is to proceed as a matador, building up your skills as you fight the various bulls in the arena. As you build up your skills (purchasing advances with money made from winning bouts), you start facing more and more challenging “bulls” – ones that charge faster, multiple bulls at the same time, ones that inflict more damage. This is a fun game I just found late last week, but have been playing in campaign mode each day since. There is also a survival mode where you fight wave after wave of charging bulls. This is a fun game, easy to pick, and surprisingly addictive!

The Early Edition - @JorjLim

The Early Edition is an RSS reader, that doesn't concentrate on features, but more on how it displays the content.

It displays the RSS in a form of a newspaper, so which you can flick through and pick the stories that interest you like you would, reading a real newspaper. It comes with lots of built in RSS feeds, with, of course the option to add your own, either by yourself or in groups, so you can display multiple feeds in one paper.

If the RSS feed is only formatted to show the first view lines, you can flip the page and show the original article, as it appears on the website.

Make the app like your daily newspaper, by selecting only articles from that day, or if you've missed a couple of days you can select to see "All dates" which will show you as far back as the RSS feed will allow.

Its a great way to catch up on news and has even replaced all my other RSS readers as my morning news catchup.

PushMail – @MarkDouangchanh (Reader’s Choice)

Not everyone wants to be alerted immediately when they receive an email but there are a good number of people who do. Look out how many RIM users brag about how their emails get pushed to them right away on the Blackberry. PushMail is an app that allows your iPhone/iPod to surpass what the Blackberry can do. PushMail will notify you as soon as you get an email with a preview alert box (similar to an SMS text box) so that you can read the beginning of the email without having to open up your email. From there you can choose to view the email in your native email app or the PushMail app. PushMail will also leave a Badge on the PushMail app icon to indicate how many unread emails you have.

The App is easy to set up and works like a charm.

The Dev-Team will be releasing the official tools for an untethered iOS 4.3.1 jailbreak tonight. Both Redsn0w and PwnageTool will be available within the next 24 hours and will support all iOS devices including the iPhone 4 and latest generation iPod touch, but will not yet be compatible with the iPad 2.

Over the weekend the Dev-Team let the world know that if #sundayisfunday started trending on Twitter they’d release an untethered jailbreak shortly after. It has since been confirmed that they’re planning to release the official tools at GMT-8, which should translate for us in the US and Canada to the following times:

• 12AM Pacific
• 1AM Mountain
• 2AM Central
• 3AM Eastern

It’s been a long time coming, but it looks like we’ll finally be able to jailbreak iOS 4.3.1 without needing to tether to a PC or Mac each time a reboot is required. We’re not sure when a jailbreak will be out for the iPad 2, but we’ve heard rumblings of something in the works from Comex. The Dev-Team may hold out on an iPad 2 jailbreak to make sure Apple doesn’t patch hardware vulnerabilities with the iPhone 5, but with rumors that we won’t see the iPhone 5 in June this year they may end up releasing a tool sooner rather than later.
