Wife said no to iPad 2… but Apple said yes! Posted: 21 Mar 2011 02:08 PM PDT In the post-it note dual of “Wife said no” and “Apple said yes”, any guesses as to which yellow sticky turned out on top? That’s right, Apple’s fantastic customer service strikes again. A man returned an iPad 2 because his wife disapproved of the purchase only to find one arrive at his door shortly after. The full story goes something like this: Man buys iPad 2. Man’s wife frowns upon iPad 2. Man returns iPad 2 with a note on it that says “wife said no”. Apple finds note and thinks it’s funny. Two Apple VPs find out and also find it humorous, so Apple sends man an iPad 2 with a note that says “Apple said yes”. Man is happy to have iPad 2. Wife is happy that no money was spent. Apple is happy to make customer happy. Very cute story. Very lucky man. Did any of you out there have to the pass the spousal gauntlet to get your iPad 2? Everyday brings easy daily self-protraiture to iPhone Posted: 21 Mar 2011 10:31 AM PDT The new app Everyday for iPhone is simple in premise — it helps you take a daily self-portrait. You can align today’s photo based on a grid or yesterday’s photo and, of course, you can share it via the usual social network suspects. It comes from the minds and talents of William Wilkinson, Adam Lisagor (aka lonelysandwich), Noah Kalina, and Oliver White and is based on White’s “Noah Takes A Photo Of Himself For 6 Years project. Seems to be that for parents, especially new parents, it could be a terrific way to keep a daily journal of their children, especially with the video composition feature. Anyone out there giving it a try? Screenshots and pre-requiste Adam Lisagor video after the break! [$1.99 - iTunes link]

AT&T to use T-Mobile spectrum for LTE Posted: 21 Mar 2011 07:04 AM PDT AT&T has confirmed they’ll be using their newly announced T-Mobile US acquisition — more specifically T-Mo’s 1700MHz AWS spectrum (currently providing 3G and “4G” HSPA+) — for a bigger, better LTE rollout (“4GS?”). See the slide above for details. Apple hasn’t announced any plans for an LTE iPhone or iPad yet but as the technology matures and coverage improves they almost certainly will. Meanwhile we can hope for better HSPA+ support in iPhone 5, as current iPhone and iPad radios max out at 7.2Mbps. (See TiPb’s guide to wireless networking terms for what all that alphanumeric soup means.) We spent quite a bit of time talking about this, and other elements of the deal, on iPad Live! last night so if you missed it, be sure to check it out when it hits iTunes and RSS tonight. If you’re a current AT&T iPhone user, do you think the new, combined network might finally resolve the long-standing coverage and connection problems? Does it give you any greater faith in a solid LTE rollout? [AT&T via Android Central] AT&T to use T-Mobile spectrum for LTE is a story by TiPb. This feed is sponsored by The iPhone Blog Store. |
iOS 4.3.1 coming within 2 weeks? Posted: 21 Mar 2011 06:03 AM PDT Boy Genius Report, which has gotten good information on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch software updates in the past, is hearing from their sources that iOS 4.3.1 will be pushed out sometime within the next week or two and will address:
Hopefully it will also fix the lack of Nitro support in full-screen web clips. Anything else you’re hoping gets the bug smasher love in iOS 4.3.1? Verizon iPhone support perhaps? iOS 4.3.1 coming within 2 weeks? is a story by TiPb. This feed is sponsored by The iPhone Blog Store. |
Apple confirm there is no delay to iPad 2 launch in the UK (and internationally?) Posted: 21 Mar 2011 05:56 AM PDT Despite recent fears and rumors about a possible delay, the iPad 2 will still be released on Friday March 25… in the United Kingdom at least. UK tech site TechRadar managed to squeeze some confirmation out of the usually tight lipped Apple. Everything that is on the website still holds true. Well the good news is the UK Apple website clearly shows the release data as March 25. Most of the rumors stemmed from the Apple Czech Republic site, which clearly showed the release had slipped to April 25th. This appears to have been a typo; the Czech Republic site has now changed back to March 25 too. We’re still waiting on official confirmation from Apple regarding what time exactly online and in-store purchasing will begin. Hopefully that will come today or tomorrow. Are any of our international readers planning on hitting the Apple Store on Friday to grab an iPad 2? Let us know in the comments! Jonathan Ive not returning to the UK after all? Posted: 21 Mar 2011 05:53 AM PDT UK newspaper The Daily Mail, has published an article profiling the life of Apple's SVP of Industrial Design Jonathan Ive. The most interesting point to come from the article is a quote from one of Ive's former colleagues when asked about the recent rumor of Ive wanting to return to the UK. I'm not sure there is any truth he wants to come back. My last conversations with him were that he was planning to sell his house in the UK. The article goes on to tell us about how Ive became what he is today at Apple and the road he followed to get there. It is well worth reading. On a personal view, it is good to know that some of his early years were spent at Newcastle Polytechnic, based in my home town! Jonathan Ive not returning to the UK after all? is a story by TiPb.
