Daily Tip: How to mark an email as unread on iPhone, iPad [Beginner]

Posted: 08 Dec 2010 02:25 PM PST

Ever wonder how to mark an email message as unread on your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad? Maybe you don’t have time to respond right away and want to make sure you check the message again later, or maybe you just want plausible deniability (hey, I never read your message, I swear, look!). Either way, we’ll show you how after the break!

Marking an email as unread is actually rather simple, yet just as simple to miss, especially if you’ve hidden the header information details in the Mail app.

  • Tap on the email you want to mark as unread.
  • Look at the far right of the Subject line for small text that reads “Mark as Unread” and tap on it.
  • If you don’t see “Mark as Unread”, go up to the From line and look for small text that reads “Details”. Tap on it.
  • Now go back to the Subject field and tap “Mark as Unread”
  • That’s it!

Bonus tip: If you hide details you get to see your contact’s picture in the subject line. If you show details, you lose the contact picture but get the “Mark as Unread” and CC lines.

Hope the little tip helped you out. If so, let us know in the comments below!

Tips of the day will range from beginner-level 101 to advanced-level ninjary. If you already know this tip, keep the link handy as a quick way to help a friend. If you have a tip of your own you’d like to suggest, add them to the comments or send them in to dailytips@tipb.com. (If it’s especially awesome and previously unknown to us, we’ll even give ya a reward…)

Promo codes now work in international App Stores

Promo codes now work in international App Stores

iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad users outside the US rejoice, for Apple has raised its countenance and finally blessed us with Promo Codes that work in international App Stores. UK? Yup. Canada? You betcha. Corto Maltese? Uh… we’ll get back to you.

Good news for developers who’d like to encourage international reviews and give-aways, and good news for international users tired of “Promo Codes only work in the US App Store, Apple’s rule, not ours!” at the end of every post.

Bad news? Developers still only get 50 codes per release, so while there’s now a bigger audience, there’s no bigger supply to match. Little help there Apple?

iPad 2 LCD supplier identified, no AMOLED? [Rumor]

Posted: 08 Dec 2010 10:11 AM PST

According to Digitimes, Apple’s iPad will will be featuring an LCD display with BLUs (Back Light Units) from supplier Coretronic. That, of course, means once again no S/AMOLED displays for an Apple device.

We have talked about numerous iPad specs and features but we’ve all pretty much assumed Apple would stick with LED lit LCD with IPS panels, given the success they have had with current iPhone 4 and iPad displays. AMOLED can be beautiful and performance in daylight has improved but both technologies still have their own strengths and weaknesses.

Not addressed is whether or not this LCD panel has a Retina Display, but we’re still thinking the technology to pack 2048×1536 pixels into a 9.7-inch screen is a ways off.

Are you upset about the iPad 2 sticking with LCD? Were you hoping for S/AMOLED screen? Holding hope for a Retina Display? Tell us your take on this after the break!

iPad app Friendly for Facebook now free in App Store

Posted: 08 Dec 2010 05:40 AM PST

Friendly for Facebook

Facebook still hasn’t bothered to release a version of their app for iPad, so it’s good news that third-party app, Friendly for Facebook, has just gone free.

Friendly for Facebook is now ad supported, but users have the ability to dismiss ads that pop up at the bottom of the screen (and they’re few and far between to begin with). I’ve been using their paid version for a while now, and I really enjoy the features available in Friendly for Facebook that simply aren’t available on the Facebook website. Uploading photos, for example, is a feature I use quite a bit that wouldn’t be available without Friendly for Facebook.

You can also grab the $.99 version without ads if you’d like. If you’re using Friendly for Facebook, let us know what you think of it in the comments below!
