Apple Store bedecked with giant iPad Snow Globe for the holidays Posted: 25 Nov 2010 03:21 PM PST What says winter like an Apple Retail Store iPad snow globe, right? Complete with falling snow, curved glass, and recommended apps for just that holiday season. At my local Apple Store this new display just replaced the previous iPad on top of giant books and other desk accessories, while the poor old iPhone 4 display has been ousted in favor of giant cutout Beatles. Come on, we know where Steve Jobs’ heart is this holiday, right? There are also some changes inside, namely a new Express Store within the store, roped off and stocked up with iPad, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and gift cards. I wonder how long those will last after the Black Friday sales start tomorrow? Pictures after the break.

NAVIGON US MyRegion for iPhone promo code give away! Posted: 25 Nov 2010 12:49 PM PST NAVIGON has generously offered TiPb readers a bunch of promo codes for their amazing NAVIGON US MyRegion turn by turn navigation app for iPhone. We’re talking US MyRegion West, MyRegion Central, and MyRegion East (and did we say a bunch?!) If you’re not familiar with MyRegion, it’s basically the full on 2010 TiPb Readers Choice Award winning NAVIGON experience but covering smaller areas. That way if you only drive around the Western US, you don’t need to buy the maps for whole country or continent.
They’re normally $29.99 each (on sale tomorrow for $19.99) but wouldn’t you prefer FREE? (I thought so!) Just leave a comment below telling us which US region (East, Central or West) you’d like to visit this holiday season and why. We’ll pick a bunch of you and give you promo codes courtesy of NAVIGON. (Promo Codes only work in the US App Store, Apple’s rule not ours. They also expire so if you get one, use it quickly!) NAVIGON US MyRegion for iPhone promo code give away! is a story by TiPb. Do you buy apps right away or wait for sales? Posted: 25 Nov 2010 10:39 AM PST With one of the biggest sales days of the year almost upon us I began to think about the iPhone and iPad App Store and whether low price points encouraged consistent buying or frequent sales trained shoppers to always wait for sales? Do you always buy the latest, greatest apps and games the minute they come out, eager to get right into them and seldom phased by prices that are about the same as a latte or hamburger? Or do you think pretty much every app with drop in price after a few weeks or months, or have a seasonal sale, so why bother paying more? Does the awesomeness of the app sway your decision making at all? If it’s the hottest game or latest social craze do you jump on it immediately, but if you’re not sure you really want it do you wait for a sale so you can try it out for less? Does the price cause you to either shop now or wait, with $0.99 being a no-brainer impulse buy but $9.99 lead you to consider the decision and timing more? Or is it a mix, depending on mood and moment, how bored you are vs. how cash strapped, big brands vs. unknown indies, what your friends recommend or Apple or the blogs give a spotlight to? Does Angry Birds get your cash right away but Mildly Disgruntled Vermin have to wait for 50%? Vote up in the poll above and let me know your thoughts in the comments below. Apple’s Black Friday Sale goes live in Australia: Save on iPad, iPod touch Posted: 25 Nov 2010 08:33 AM PST Want to save money n a brand new iPad or iPod touch during Apple’s annual Black Friday sale? Well if Australia is any indication, you’re in luck. iPad is showing a AUS$51 reduction across the line, iPod touch from AUS$25 to $51 depending on model, and iPod nano from AUS$15 to $25 depending on model. Since Australia is in the future it makes sense the sales start there and then slowly make their way across Asia, Europe, and eventually North America, and while it’s not a lock everyone will get the same products discounted by the same amounts, it’s a fairly good indicator. If you’re trying to decide between an iPad and a MacBook Air, or whether to get an iPad now or wait until iPad 2, check out TiPb TV for our advice. Let us know when your local Apple Retail or Apple Online store Black Friday sales go live and what the discounts look like. Happy shopping! Mighty Eagle coming to Angry Birds for iPhone, iPad Posted: 25 Nov 2010 05:34 AM PST This December, in celebration of 1 year on the App Store, the TiPb Award winning Angry Birds will be releasing an update that includes the ability to in-app purchase Mighty Eagle as well as:
Mighty Eagle will cost $0.99/£0.59/€0.79 and can then be used to skip through those levels that you just can’t beat. However, you’ll be restricted to using the Mighty Eagle only once per hour, requiring you to wait before you can use it again. In addition, you’ll also have the new option to freely smash up levels you have already completed with the ‘regular birds’, so you can try and fill up the destruction gauge. Not only is this update going to be released in celebration of their one year anniversary, but you can also attend one of the 200+ meetup points worldwide for an Angry Birds Flash Mob. If there isn’t a event happening in your area, you can set up an event and get people to join in the fun. If you don’t already have Angry Birds, you can buy it on the App Store for $0.99/£0.59. Take a look at the “The Mighty Eagle” trailer after the break. Are you looking forward to the update? Will you be spending money on Mighty Eagle? Let us know in comments!

Printopia brings AirPrint support to all printers [Mac OS X] Posted: 25 Nov 2010 05:27 AM PST Printopia extends iOS 4.2 for iPhone and iPad AirPrint compatibility to any printer associated with your Mac. That’s important because, while AirPrint was one of the most highly anticipated features of iOS 4.2 and Apple boasted that AirPrint mades it simple to print your email, photos, web pages, and documents, by itself it’s currently only compatible with 11 printers. Enter Printopia:
Printopia also adds a “Send To Mac” printer to your network. This virtual printing option will save a PDF or JPG file directly to your Mac. Additionally, Dropbox.com users can send files directly to their Mac’s Dropbox directory for instant synchronization to the cloud. It’s baffling that Apple did not provide this kind of AirPrint support to begin with, but it’s great to have a third party option. Printopia costs $9.95 and a free 7 day trial is also available. If you pick this one up, let us know what you think! Printopia brings AirPrint support to all printers [Mac OS X] is a story by TiPb. This feed is sponsored by The iPhone Blog Store. |
