Apple sued a number of companies for producing unauthorized accessories for iPod, iPhone and iPad. “Many are of inferior quality and reliability, raising significant concerns over compatibility with and damage to Apple's products.” said Apple.

Apple maintains its own licensing program, “Made for iPod,” which requires prior approval to sell accessories. The company reportedly receives royalties ranging from 20 to 25 percent for any product sold through the licensing program, according to Shaw Wu, analyst of Kaufman Bros. Unauthorized makers not only deprive Apple of those revenues, but also violate the company’s patents and expose Apple to liability from an implied endorsement.

The defendants include Boxware Corporation, Crazyondigital, Eforcity Corporation, Everydaysource, Itrimming and United Integral，and could expand to nearly 20 companies.
