LG says they can’t make enough iPad screens, Apple may need to delay launches Posted: 25 Jul 2010 12:01 PM PDT Once again it looks like Apple might get some heat for something that it doesn’t control — namely the supply of iPad screens which LG now warns are constrained to the point international roll-outs might need to be delayed. Given how much Apple does on their own, we sometimes forget they’re still at the mercy of other companies — even competing companies — when it comes to components, like LG for screens, and Samsung for chips. Apple delayed their second wave of iPad launches by a month last May, and has just entered several more countries this weekend, but high demand and low screen supply seems to be something they can’t get passed. Even if they kick things into high gear, LG CEO Kwon Young-Soo warns, they won’t be able to meet demand until 2011. Has AT&T fixed HSUPA upload speeds in your area? Posted: 25 Jul 2010 05:22 AM PDT A bunch of readers are telling us AT&T and Alcatel Lucent have fixed the issues with HSUPA (high speed uploads) and their iPhone 4’s a positively racing up the information superhighway again. Not everyone in every place seems so lucky, however, as our good friend @TCPJ_Mickey, still seems to be chugging along sub-100 in Arizona. You know what this means, right? Speed test! We use speedtest.net’s app [iTunes link] but whatever your choice of measure, post where you are and what your upload speeds look like today and we’ll see if we can figure out if AT&T really is giving more Mbps in more places. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in, sorry to Mickey!] Has AT&T fixed HSUPA upload speeds in your area? is a story by TiPb. This feed is sponsored by The iPhone Blog Store. |
New style YouTube embed for Flash-free iPhone video Posted: 25 Jul 2010 05:01 AM PDT YouTube is experimenting with a new i-frame based embed style that would server up good ole’ Flash video for machines that support it and new fangled HTML5 video for Apple’s iOS devices, iPhone and iPad:
So, somewhere down the road, you’ll be able to play the YouTube video you want, in-line on the website you want, on the device you want, Apple and Adobe be damned. Example after the break.
