Apple has released iTunes 9.2 for Mac and Windows, which will be required for installing the upcoming iOS 4 update, and syncing iPhone 4. Previously released in beta for the Mac at WWDC 2010, new features include:

iTunes 9.2 comes with several new features and improvements, including:

• Sync with iPhone 4 to enjoy your favorite music, movies, TV shows, books and more on-the-go
• Sync and read books with iPhone or iPod touch with iOS 4 and iBooks 1.1
• Organize and sync PDF documents as books. Read PDFs with iBooks 1.1 on iPad and any iPhone or iPod touch with iOS 4
• Organize your apps on your iOS 4 home screens into folders using iTunes
• Faster back-ups while syncing an iPhone or iPod touch with iOS 4

• Album artwork improvements make artwork appear more quickly when exploring your library

Last night, Apple sold out of iPhone 4’s with a June 24 delivery date and pushed back all orders to July 2. Now those orders have sold out and the new shipping date is July 14.

It’s no question that the iPhone 4 is a huge hit this year, more so than previous years. We learned earlier that 600,000 iPhone 4 orders were placed yesterday. With the shipping date being pushed back yet again, how many orders do you think have been placed now?

Phoenix Wright is Capcom’s latest game for the iPhone. It’s a port of a port (GameBoy to Nintendo DS to iOS) that still retains it’s fun factor through the years and is a great addition to any iOS gamer. The concept behind Phoenix Wright is simple; you are a new a attorney and you have taken on your first criminal case as a defense attorney for your best friend from high school, Larry Butz, and he is accused of murder!

The main game play takes place in the court room. Just like any court case, you are given evidence that you can reference at any time from the court record. And you WILL need to reference it as your clients future depends on it.

Your first case deals with Larry’s girlfriend’s murder. The witness pins Larry as the killer… but is he? This is where the fun begins. It is up to you to prove his innocence. In the courtroom you listen to the witness testimony and try to find holes in it based on the evidence you have in your possession. Regretfully, I can’t give away too much more without spoiling the story… There are additional levels though and each one gets more and more challenging, you even move out of the courtroom to gather evidence yourself.

As fun as the game is, the writing is geared towards a younger audience. Even though the subject matter is adult, it often uses “childish humor” to get points across at times. Though I shrug this off, it may bother some adult gamers, kids will love it. But I do admit, I chuckled from time to time. It is important to note that this game is not 3D but instead kind of like one of those old Choose Your Own Adventure books. The game is based primarily on reading and critical thinking skills and lends itself as a quick pick up and play game, but you will be spending some quality time with it. The good news is that you can save anytime and it usually places you right at the spot you were last at in the story.

In the end I found Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney very enjoyable and fun. Was it challenging? Yes. Was the crude humor at times? Yes. Will I play it again? Most definitely.

Apple announced that more than 600,000 pre-orders were placed yesterday for iPhone 4, while at the same time apologizing for the problems many customers experienced trying to place orders:

Yesterday Apple and its carrier partners took pre-orders for more than 600,000 of Apple's new iPhone 4. It was the largest number of pre-orders Apple has ever taken in a single day and was far higher than we anticipated, resulting in many order and approval system malfunctions. Many customers were turned away or abandoned the process in frustration. We apologize to everyone who encountered difficulties, and hope that they will try again or visit an Apple or carrier store once the iPhone 4 is in stock.

Suffice it to say if these numbers hold up, Apple might just have another hit on their hands.

After what can only be called a complete clusterfrak of an iPhone 4 pre-order day, where systems went up and down and eager customers spent hours, if not dozens of hours, just trying to get a confirmed order, AT&T has shut down the system — hopefully to reboot into a kinder, better Matrix.

Apple still seems to be taking pre-orders, though the initial batch has sold out and the next one is only guaranteed for delivery on July 2.

And yes, we’re still exhausted too.

I am a clown in a travelling circus currently touring North America.

Before, during (in the dressing room), and after the show, I have my head buried in my iPhone 3GS. Reading blogs, checking the news, and especially checking a Twitter search for the name of my show. I like to get a feel for what the audience buzz is before the show, as it could help with my pre-show improvisation in the Big Top. At intermission, audience members fire up their phones and tweet about how the show is going thus far and what they think. I’m right there, in real time getting feedback. Same thing after the show. I’m also checking for discount ticket deals (before the company tells us) so I can blitz that info out, surreptitiously helping get butts in seats.

Using my iPhone to check the Twitterverse before the show has come in very handy, and it adds a surreal, hyper-modern, meta-theatrical element to my performance. And sometimes, a certain someone, may be singled out in a very unique way.

Every once in a while, more often than I’d like I run across a tweet like this:

Off to the lame circus with my family despite a particular dislike of clowns.

Now right off the bat, he’s just knocking the circus, eluding that he’s probably just gonna have a bad time no matter what. But add to that, he mentions the clown thing. Anyone who knows me knows I don’t take too kindly to clown haters. But I thought I’d let it go. Then, less than an hour later, he pushes further:

Coulrophobia is abnormal or exaggerated fear of clowns.” Bugger off! If there’s anything that’s abnormal or exaggerated, it’s a clown.

Okay, so the guy is starting to have an annoyingly good time with his clown-bashing venom, and does so by popping onto Wikipedia for some zinger fodder. I’m trying to keep my cool. A follower of his pipes in, somewhat ignorantly:

Last I checked, there aren’t really clowns at that circus…

To which our first guy says:

My @$$ there are no clowns!. It’s like the friggin’ Blaire Witch Project with grease paint.

And with that, I held my tongue no longer. During the show I wrote to him, knowing full well he’d read it at intermission:

“Blair Witch Project with grease paint” Great line! Hope we didn’t totally ruin your night. See you in your nightmares!

Intermission rolls around. This pops up:

RT “Hope we didn’t totally ruin your night. See you in your nightmares!” From the clown. In the show. On stage!

And then three minutes later:

Totally p0wn3d — or should that be c70wn3d by a clown from somewhere in the tent about 2 minutes into intermission.

And then five minutes after that, directly to me:

Well played. Truly well played, my funny friend. How on earth did you even see my tweet? I’m not sure if I’m reassured or freaked.

Then my fellow clown in the show chimed in to both of us:

Why don’t you two just get a room? Geez.

To which I respond to both of them:

Well I DO know where he’s sitting. Hint: Look behind you!

Quoth the guy:

aaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!

And then even his wife got in on the action:

This is [his] wife and I SO want to tell you where we’re sitting.

Despite my encouragement, she didn’t. At the end of the show, our guy gives his final thoughts:

I had a great time, guys, and should be able to sleep with the lights off in a few weeks.

Mission accomplished? Have I won this guy over? By playing into his bullcrap fear or hatred of clowns, have I turned him around?

I’m mostly tickled by the idea of using Twitter on my iPhone as another performance layer. Meta-cyber-theatricality. Taking audience reactions, or or just their thoughts, from the web and using them in the performance. At one point in the show when I’m screaming with fear, I screamed this guy’s Twitter handle, followed by “I’m…so…scared!!” ala Blair Witch Project.

The evil clowns just got evil-er.

That’s just one example of keeping “real time” on the audience I’m about to “entertain” thanks to my iPhone.

The apps I’m using most at work are TwitBird Pro, Foursquare, NetNewsWire, iPod (listening to podcasts for an hour while putting on makeup), and UkeChords (no clown is complete without his ukulele).

The iPhone 4 pre-order madness has come and gone. The big news, other than AT&T and Apple selling out of pre-orders and AT&T having yet another huge security flaw, was that not only were the rumors that AT&T will not have the white iPhone 4 available for pre-order true, but it’s true in Apple’s case as well.

I, for one, was angry completely shocked when I learned Apple did not have the white version available. My heart was set on buying a white iPhone 4. Apple’s website said:

White iPhone currently unavailable for pre-order or in-store pick-up.

TiPb has received reports on Twitter and our forums that Best Buy is allowing customers to pre-order white iPhones. However, we’re skeptical and don’t exactly believe that Best Buy will be able to honor these reservations. Apple wouldn’t ship white iPhones to Best Buy over their own stores, would they?

I very briefly considered waiting for the white iPhone 4 to be available, but quickly realized that I don’t have the patience required to wait. I reserved a black iPhone 4 for pick-up and have a small glimmer of hope that Apple Stores will, in reality, have a tiny stock of white ones available on June 24.

We tried to end the day, we really did, but the July 2 shipping date now being presented by Apple Online Store for iPhone 4 yanked us back up off the floor. We heard before AT&T was out of launch-day stock, could Apple be as well?

Looks that way, but sometimes when we refresh the site it’s going back to June 24. Right now it’s at July 2 again. Maybe they’re having trouble coming to terms with it?

Either way, we’re already trying to imagine the massive sales number Apple’s post pre-order iPhone press release will read. (Can we call it an even applezillion sold?)
