Pogo Sketch stylus for iPhone and iPad – accessory review

Pogo Sketch stylus for iPhone iPad video

Here we have the Pogo Sketch stylus [$14.95], the small, lightweight and stylish choice for those who want to write on their iPhone or iPad.

The Pogo Sketch comes in sliver or pink and is made of a aluminum alloy that makes it look sleek and feel sturdy in your hand. The capacitive foam tip gives a nice soft feel when its used, though I do find you have to press a bit harder than when using your finger. The tip is thin which is also good for those who want to do detail work or get around pudgy fingers to begin with. There’s a handy clip on the back so it will fit over your shirt, book bag, or hang off your pouch case. It also has a loop on the top so if you want to hang it from your neck — or anyplace else — you can just place a cord around it and go. They really did think of everything.

Some (including Steve Jobs) may ask: why use a stylus at all when you always have your fingers handy. Well I live in a cold climate and I hate having to take off my gloves to use my iPhone or iPad. I also would rather use a stylus when I am doing anything which leaves my fingers dirty like eating or yard work. Also, drawing with a stylus is fun.

I keep my Pogo Sketch with me in my purse, so if ever I need it is always at hand. It works really well with the iPhone and iPad and is a good deal at $14.99. It’s especially great for a gift because it is very useful for any iPhone, iPad user. If you pick one up please let me know if you enjoy it as much as I do!

Pros

-Lightweight -Sturdy -Affordable

Cons

  • The clip is made of plastic
  • needs a bit more pressure than your finger

Kinder, gentler Steve Jobs chimes in about Adobe in latest email

Posted: 27 May 2010 08:51 AM PDT

In the latest email from Steve Jobs we are seeing a kinder and gentler individual who actually had something positive to say regarding Adobe. MacStories reader Josh Cheney shot off the following in a email:

"Do you hate Adobe and their products (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc) or do you just hate their view on Flash?"

Jobs then responded with some more than usual kind words:

"I respect and admire Adobe. We just chose to not have Flash on our devices."

See, Steve does have a heart but we all know deep down he wants to bury Adobe with every chance he gets.

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction now available for iPhone

Posted: 27 May 2010 05:14 AM PDT

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction is now available in the App Store for $9.99. Stealth action has finally made it to the iPhone. I have not had too much time with the title, but it looks and controls great.

The game has Sam Fisher is back in his first foray on the iPhone. Controls are standard fanfare, virtual joystick on the left and action buttons that change dynamically based on the situation on the right. The duck and cover mechanics are fun and there are lots of new mechanics such as a white shadow that appears indicating Sam’s last known position to the enemy. This comes in very handy for strategically dodging the bad guys. The views are sweet and frame-rate is good. I will be reviewing this game soon, but for now, enjoy a couple screenshots from early in the game and the official trailer after the break!

Steve Ballmer to announce iPhone, iPad Visual Studio support at WWDC? [Crazy alert!]

Posted: 27 May 2010 04:37 AM PDT

An analyst has let fly that Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer will be getting 7 minutes of time during the WWDC 2010 keynote — where the iPhone HD/iPhone 4G will al but certainly be introduced — to announce Visual Studio 2010 will support the native creation of iPhone, iPad, and Mac apps. Is there a word in the English language for something so bat$#!t crazy “rumor” and even “fiction” just don’t properly convey its bat$#!t craziness?

What makes this particular type of bat$#!t craziness so crazy is that it comes on the wake of Apple disallowing Adobe Flash CS5-style cross-compilation for development, Google’s awkwardly aggressive and increasing attacks on Apple, and Microsoft’s shakeup of their own devices division — triple trendy tie-in.

Hey, Microsoft and Apple have come to deals on Office and ActiveSync in the past, and we keep hearing about Bing being on the table to replace Google as default search…

So will Ballmer take the stage and monkey-boy dance out to iPhone developers, developers, developers!? Will Windows PCs get a way in to Apple app creation? Will I ever use bat$#!t insane in a post this much again?

Find out June 7!

Some international iPads arriving early, hundreds of thousands of US iPads already there

Posted: 27 May 2010 04:21 AM PDT

Several readers hit us up saying their iPads were already arriving, ahead of Apple’s May 28 international release date (at least phase one of it, phase two is slated for July). Given the spread of 9 countries, its probably harder for Apple to keep their iron grip on delivery dates and still make sure customers get them when they’re supposed to.

If your iPad did indeed arrive early, drop us a note in the comments and let us know where and when.

Google acquired mobile advertiser AdMob, meanwhile, says it’s seeing up to 25% of existing US iPads — the million+ Apple sold in the first month — hitting their network from outside the US.

Does this mean Americans bought less than we thought, and international early adapters have already sated some of their fill, or that — given the ongoing supply constraints — that Apple is just going to sell as many as they can make in all the countries they can get them to?

We’ll start finding out tomorrow as Apple Stores open early so those who didn’t pre-order can try their luck in line, like Chris, Nic, and Hansas in Australia (picture after the break).

First in the que at Robina Apple store…only 11hours and a night of camping in the shopping mall to go! Stoked!

Where are you lining up?

Mercedes-Benz Financial adapts iPad for business use

Posted: 26 May 2010 08:27 PM PDT

Mercedes-Benz is providing iPads to 40 lucky dealers across the country so that they gain access to the company’s point-of-sale dealer system on the showroom floors.

“Mercedes-Benz Financial today announced that it is putting the Apple iPad into the hands of its dealers, becoming the first automotive finance company to give dealers mobile access to its proprietary point-of-sale dealer system called MB Advantage. In doing so, Mercedes-Benz Financial is one of the first companies to adapt the consumer-oriented iPad as a mobile business tool.”

And why not use iPad as it will provide the dealers with wireless mobility, information and flexibility – directly at their finger tips.

Video after the break! And yes we are aware it will not play on your iPhone – blame Mercedes-Benz for using Flash
