CBC Hockey for iPhone: stream playoff games live Posted: 13 May 2010 01:56 PM PDT CBC Hockey from the iconic Hockey Night in Canada series is a free download from the iTunes App Store and comes ready to stream all the live NHL hockey playoff action straight to your iPhone — via $2.99 in-app purchase.
And no, I’m not just posting this because of Montreal’s stellar playoff victory last night against Pittsburgh (for those who are more geek than hockey freak, that was the team with the big C’s on their chests trouncing the guys wearing the Linux Tux jerseys). FlickStackr for iPad – App Review Posted: 13 May 2010 10:21 AM PDT FlickStackr for iPad [$0.99 - iTunes Link] is a Flickr browsing application. The interface is beautiful, intuitive, and a pleasure to use. With FlickStackr, you can browse photos on Flickr, even if you don’t have a Flickr account. If you do, then you can also browse your photostream, sets, favorites, groups, and contacts. FlickStackr also displays EXIF data, tags, and comments. The main feature that is missing from FlickStackr is the ability to upload photos. However, iPont promises to bring that ability in a future update. In addition to the wonderful online photo viewing that FlickStacker brings to iPad, it also allows you to save photos locally for offline viewing. iPont calls this feature a “Stack”. You can choose any photos from Flickr to save to your stack. It only saves the actual images, however, not the EXIF data that’s associated with them. FlickStackr is an excellent app for experiencing Flickr on the iPad, and for only $0.99, it’s quite a steal! Pros
Cons
Video and Screenshots after the break!

iPhone OS 4 running on prototype iPhone HD/iPhone 3G: real, fake, or really fake? Posted: 13 May 2010 09:17 AM PDT Add another image to the Taoviet iPhone HD/iPhone 4G prototype gallery, this one purporting to run iPhone OS 4 in all shades of blurred glory. Did they really get the PRO2 (which is apparently an earlier prototype to the Gizmodo iPhone HD/iPhone 4G unit) to boot up Apple’s next generation iPhone OS, or did some enterprising individual launch Photoshop, grab a 3GS resolution screen shot, match all the edges up, and then add the haze? If not, where’s the sharp, multi-angled pics and video like yesterday’s firmware-only posts? You tell us — real, fake, or really fake? [Engadget, Thanks Damon for the tip!] iPhone OS 4 running on prototype iPhone HD/iPhone 3G: real, fake, or really fake? is a story by TiPb. This feed is sponsored by The iPhone Blog Store. |

Adobe hearts Apple, hits them in userbase with open letter on openness, new ad campaign Posted: 13 May 2010 05:23 AM PDT In the ongoing feud between Apple and Adobe, Adobe’s founders have posted an open letter, “thoughts on openess” and Adobe has begun rolling out a new ad campaign on Engadget — and presumably other geek-rich online sites — declaring their love for Apple, and then telling users how saintly Adobe, users like us, and little puppies are being hurt by Apple’s evil ways. It’s smart, at least much smarter than Adobe’s initial responses to — and complaints to the federal government about — Steve Jobs’ “thoughts on Flash”, although it still pretends that Adobe isn’t as self-interested, controlling, and out for money and market share as Apple — which they absolutely are.
Interestingly, Adobe’s open letter contains three registered trademark symbols (®), including one on Flash. Steve Jobs’ contained none. Flash is Adobe’s. Tell us how popular it is. Make a phenomenal mobile version that does things so well it makes HTML5 cry in its standards-based containers. Win the case that Flash is better and too important to ignore. But continuing to pretend Adobe and Flash are open and end-user interests are what Adobe is fighting for is insulting. Smart users know better. They’ve used Adobe products. Words aren’t going to make a dent now; it’s time for deliverables. Adobe hearts Apple, hits them in userbase with open letter on openness, new ad campaign is a story by TiPb. Apple friending FaceBook for iPhone OS 4? Posted: 13 May 2010 05:01 AM PDT Rumor has it Apple could be increasing their Facebook integration for iPhone OS 4, perhaps to include contact sync and messaging support for end users and Facebook Connect for developers. Apple’s relationship with social networks has been tentative at best, with Mac OS X 10.6 and iPhoto 09 offering rudimentary integration for things like photo tags. The Facebook app on the iPhone has done some contact syncing (initially with funny to off-putting results), but nothing thus far as hinted at Palm webOS or Microsoft Kin level integration. Business Insider cites only a “source”, and coming as it does with Facebook once again in the eye of the user-privacy storm, it’s sure to be met with mixed reaction. Here’s why it might just happen:
It’s one of the rare instances where Apple is way behind the consumer curve. They don’t “get” social media (perhaps their hyper-secretive corporate culture doesn’t allow them to) but they’re slowly and painfully realizing that if they don’t do something, they lose an element of user tie-in, and Apple certainly “gets” user tie-in. Apple opens beta for “next MobileMe Mail” Posted: 13 May 2010 04:42 AM PDT Apple announced today that they’re opening a beta program for the “next MobileMe Mail” in order to get user feedback on the new features it will bring:
Really Apple, you had me at Rules. Originally introduced alongside iPhone 2.0 and the iPhone 3G at WWDC 2008, MobileMe has since introduced a few key features like Find my iPhone (and now iPad) but has seen few overall improvements. While the push experience itself has become good, the feature set is increasingly lagging behind free services like Gmail and premium services like Exchange. Do these updates make MobileMe Mail more attractive to you? Apple opens beta for “next MobileMe Mail” is a story by TiPb. This feed is sponsored by The iPhone Blog Store. |
