Best Buy Canada Rogers/Fido Off-Contract iPhone 3G S Pricing — $699/$799 Posted: 15 Jun 2009 02:10 PM PDT Yeah. Ouch. But that’s what BGR’s Canadian ninja are reporting. These are Best Buy inventory prices, but it’s hard to imagine Rogers/Fido stores charging less what with the exchange rate and typically Canadian shipping overages added. Any Canadians (besides me) lining up for an off-contract iPhone 3G S this Friday? Does the price change things? How about those of you getting the full subsidy? Happier now? PCalc 1.6 Now Live in App Store — As iPhone 3.0 “Universal Binary”? Posted: 15 Jun 2009 12:37 PM PDT PCalc developer James Thomson is one of our favorites because he not only makes great apps, but he seems to love doing it, and always figures out new, positive, and productive ways to get our attention. This time around it isn’t just the release of an iPhone 3.0 compatible version of PCalc for iPhone ($9.99 - iTunes link) that includes support for copy and paste (and a couple of new vertical button layouts, one for engineers, one for programmers), it’s how he built one version of the app that supports both iPhone 2.2.1 and iPhone 3.0 at the same time. An iPhone version of Apple’s “universal binary” concept, as it were. We’re not sure he’s the first to do this — and according to Twitter he isn’t either — but we hope he does write up the process when the 3.0 SDK NDA (non-disclosure agreement) lifts so other developers can do it as well. It’s an elegant solution to say the least. Now to see if we can not only paste some complex calculations… but understand them! This is a story by the iPhone Blog. AT&T Reminder: No Extra Charge for iPhone MMS Posted: 15 Jun 2009 09:20 AM PDT TiPb is constantly receiving the big question regarding AT&T and MMS - will there be an extra charge for it? The answer is a simple no. The better question would be - when will we actually see it? Later this summer, as part of the 3.0 software, AT&T will make multimedia messaging (MMS) available at no extra cost to customers with a text messaging bundle. Now “later this summer” can literally mean June 19th for all we know. TiPb thinks AT&T faithful will see MMS sooner than you may think. More AT&T related questions can be answered via this AT&T FAQ. iPhone 3G S Now Shipping From Apple Posted: 15 Jun 2009 07:59 AM PDT I woke up this morning to an email from Apple — my iPhone 3G S has shipped! A quick look at the tracking information via the UPS website shows that it has been shipped from Shenzhen China to arrive at my home by the 19th at the latest. Something important to remember, if you did order from Apple and will not be home at the time of the delivery - you must fill out a form via Apple’s web site for them to leave it at your door if that’s what you prefer. If not, you will be waiting until Monday and that would make for a long weekend. So far we have had no confirmation regarding phones shipping from AT&T. Any AT&T customers receive a shipping notification yet? This is a story by the iPhone Blog. This feed is sponsored by The iPhone Blog Store. | ||||||||
Monday Fun Video: iPhone OS Running on a Big Screen Mac Pro! Posted: 15 Jun 2009 04:42 AM PDT See above. Dreamfield.se (via CruchGear) has hacked iPhone OS 2.x to run on a multi-touch monitor of a Mac Pro desktop. It’s not the iTablet we’ve all been waiting for, and likely more than a little bit of an arm workout, but as iPhone hacks go it’s impressive. Most impressive. This is a story by the iPhone Blog. iPhone 3G S Firmware Already Lining Up on Apple’s Servers? Posted: 15 Jun 2009 04:38 AM PDT No, downloading and installing it on your iPhone 2G won’t magically give it a better camera, video recording, or unicorn tear-powered 2x speed. (It will most likely give you heartache — never mix and match firmware!) but MacRumors forum has already found iPhone OS 3.0 for iPhone hardware 2,1 lingering about Apple.com. (We’re betting it’s waiting in line for the hardware — curse those pre-order limits!) Again, we don’t recommend doing anything with it — if you’re getting an iPhone 3G S it’ll come pre-installed. We simply present it as another check box on the road to release, like Find My iPhone going live, and Push Notifications hitting the App Store. Fun week ahead, no doubt! Tap Tap Revenge Debuts Push Notification in App Store Posted: 15 Jun 2009 04:31 AM PDT 9to5Mac (via Gizmodo) shows Push Notification already working in the latest version of Tap Rap Revenge [Free - iTunes link] when run on the iPhone 3.0 GM developer seed. Gizmodo, of course, raises the pertinent question:
Since Text Alerts don’t tack, a new one obliterates the one before it. What happens when an urgent IM is replaced by “Hey, dooooooode, can haz rock out?!” Sure, badges remain, but then you have to go looking for them… This is a story by the iPhone Blog. App Review: Documents to Go for iPhone Posted: 14 Jun 2009 03:33 PM PDT Matt Miller, editor of our sibling-site NokiaExperts, got an advanced look at Documents to Go for iPhone as part of his ZDNet gig, and has already gone live with an amazingly detailed review: Review: Documents To Go raises the bar for iPhone word processing. Matt loves the low price point, the Word editing, and Exchange support. Obviously, he misses the Excel editing support, but knows that’s coming. Check out his full review for more, including a huge screenshot gallery, and overviews on editing, syncing, and Exchange support. Thanks Matt! This is a story by the iPhone Blog. Quick App: Documents to Go for iPhone Posted: 14 Jun 2009 02:44 PM PDT Documents to Go is finally — FINALLY! — available for the iPhone. But, it currently only supports Word editing, no Excel (though they promise it via a free update), no PowerPoint (though no one else is doing that either). Yet, there’s a higher end version that includes Exchange Attachments integration! 148apps has the details, but the short and long of it is, there are two distinct versions now available:
It looks like they’re still using their homebrew cut, copy, and paste solution, and with iPhone 3.0 just days away, the timing is a little awkward. Any developers Documents to Go on iPhone 3.0, let us know how that works for you. (We anticipate a 3.0 happy update ASAP) The most important question is, however, all of you waiting on Documents to Go, is this what you wanted? Worth the wait? Sound off in the comments! Screenshots after the break!
